If you find an enemy in distress, do not give way to the anger that restrains defense, but feed him as he did the brothers who sold him. If you meet a younger man who is exhausted, weep for him as he wept for Benjamin, the son of his old age; perhaps avarice also tempts you, as the mistress pulled Joseph by his garments, that you should despise the commandment? throw off the garments; keep faith with the Lord, as he did with Potiphar. Manage the want in a year, as he did in the seven. Why do you provide a plausible pretext for sin? He who made the child, also made you. He who provides you with resources will also provide the child with the means of life. Do not make excuses for the children, O covetous one. Are they children?
