and helper of my salvation; and I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth. For ever will I keep my mercy for him, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven,” 6.12.5 and again: “I have sworn to David my servant, I will prepare your seed for ever, and I will build up your throne to all generations,” 6.12.6 and again: “Once have I sworn by my holiness, that I will not lie to David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me, and as the moon established for ever.” 6.12.7 And so, the one hundred and thirty-first psalm, having mentioned these things, refers what is being declared to Christ. Hear then this as well: “Remember, Lord, David and all his meekness: how he swore to the Lord, and vowed to the God of Jacob.” To which after other things he adds: “The Lord has sworn in truth to David, and he will not turn from it: of the fruit of your loins I will set upon your throne.” 6.12.8 And going down further, he more clearly names the one to be raised up from the fruit of David's loins, saying: “There will I make a horn to bud for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame: but upon himself shall my sanctification flourish.” 6.12.9 Solomon, therefore, the most wise, understanding these oracles given to his father, perceiving that they were not small but greater than human nature, and more fitting for God than for himself, although he was a son of David, and understanding the one named firstborn by God and the one clearly prophesied as the son of God, rejoiced exceedingly at the promises, and prays for the fulfillment of the prophecy, and that the one prophesied, whom he proclaims as firstborn and son of God, will come. For which reason he says: “And now, O God of Israel, let your word be confirmed, which you spoke to your servant David, my father. For will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? If the heaven and the heaven of heavens are not sufficient for you?”

6.13.1 From Micah. “Hear, all you peoples; let the earth give heed, and all that are in it: and the Lord God shall be among you for a testimony, the Lord from his holy house. Because, behold, the Lord, the Lord, comes forth from his place, and will come down upon the high places of the earth, and the mountains shall be shaken from under him, and the valleys shall melt like wax before the face of fire, and as water running down a steep place. All this is for the transgression of Jacob, and for the sin of the house of Israel.”

6.13.2 And now the Lord God is proclaimed openly as coming down from heaven and coming forth “from his place” through the preceding words. This would be the Word of God, whom alone we have shown through the foregoing to be begotten God and Lord after the Most High and over all. And you would not be wrong to say that his place is the kingdom in heaven, and the glorious throne of his divinity, of which the prophet sang, speaking of God: “Your throne,” he says, “O God, is for ever and ever,” on which the Father, as to a only-begotten Son, commanded him to sit, saying: “Sit on my right hand.”

6.13.3 For we have already clearly established before that these things refer only to our Savior, the God Word; this one, therefore, the present oracle proclaims “will come forth from his place, and will come down upon the high places of the earth.”

6.13.4 And what would these be but, explicitly, the mountains of Israel and the hills, about which countless prophecies proclaim, and Jerusalem itself, and Mount Zion, where our Savior and Lord spent most of his time? And he prophesies that their destruction and ruin will occur at the coming of Christ. And it is manifest that after the coming of our Savior and the deeds dared against him, all the aforesaid places have been besieged and have come to extreme desolation.

6.13.5 Not only that, but also the rulers of the Jewish nation, and the kingdom formerly established among them, the priesthood and of the teachers

μου καὶ ἀντιλήπτωρ τῆς σωτηρίας μου· κἀγὼ πρωτότοκον θήσομαι αὐτόν, ὑψηλὸν παρὰ τοῖς βασιλεῦσι τῆς γῆς. εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα φυλάξω αὐτῷ τὸ ἔλεός μου, καὶ ἡ διαθήκη μου πιστὴ αὐτῷ· καὶ θήσομαι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ ὡς τὰς ἡμέρας τοῦ οὐρανοῦ», 6.12.5 καὶ πάλιν· «ὤμοσα ∆αβὶδ τῷ δούλῳ μου, ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος ἑτοιμάσω τὸ σπέρμα σου, καὶ οἰκοδομήσω εἰς γενεὰν καὶ γενεὰν τὸν θρόνον σου», 6.12.6 καὶ αὖθις· «ἅπαξ ὤμοσα ἐν τῷ ἁγίῳ μου, εἰ τῷ ∆αβὶδ ψεύσομαι· τὸ σπέρμα αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα μενεῖ, καὶ ὁ θρόνος αὐτοῦ ὡς ὁ ἥλιος ἐναντίον μου, καὶ ὡς ἡ σελήνῃ κατηρτισμένη εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα». 6.12.7 Τούτων δὴ καὶ ὁ ἑκατοστὸς τριακοστὸς πρῶτος ψαλμὸς μνημονεύσας, ἐπὶ τὸν Χριστὸν ἀναφέρει τὰ δηλούμενα. ἄκουε δ' οὖν καὶ τούτου· «μνήσθητι, κύριε, τοῦ ∆αβὶδ καὶ πάσης τῆς πραΰτητος αὐτοῦ· ὡς ὤμοσεν τῷ κυρίῳ, ηὔξατο τῷ θεῷ Ἰακώβ». οἷς μεθ' ἕτερα ἐπιλέγει· «ὤμοσεν κύριος τῷ ∆αβὶδ ἀλήθειαν, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀθετήσῃ αὐτόν· ἐκ καρποῦ τῆς κοιλίας σου θήσομαι ἐπὶ τὸν θρόνον σου». 6.12.8 καὶ ὑποκαταβὰς ἑξῆς τὸν ἐκ καρποῦ τῆς κοιλίας ∆αβὶδ ἀναστησόμενον λευκότερον ὀνομάζει λέγων· «ἐκεῖ ἐξανατελῶ κέρας τῷ ∆αβίδ, ἡτοίμασα λύχνον τῷ χριστῷ μου· τοὺς ἐχθροὺς αὐτοῦ ἐνδύσω αἰσχύνην· ἐπὶ δὲ αὐτὸν ἐξανθήσει τὸ ἁγίασμά μου». 6.12.9 Ταῦτα τοιγαροῦν Σολομῶν ὁ σοφώτατος τῷ ἑαυτοῦ πατρὶ χρησθέντα συννοήσας, μὴ μικρὰ μείζονα δὲ τῆς κατὰ ἄνθρωπον φύσεως τυγχάνοντα συνιδών, καὶ μᾶλλον ἁρμόζοντα θεῷ ἤπερ αὐτῷ καίπερ ὄντι υἱῷ ∆αβίδ, συνιείς τε τὸν πρὸς τοῦ θεοῦ πρωτότοκον ὠνομασμένον καὶ τὸν σαφῶς προφητευόμενον υἱὸν θεοῦ, ὑπεργέγηθεν ταῖς ἐπαγγελίαις, καὶ συνεύχεται πιστωθῆναι τὰ τῆς προρρήσεως, ἐπιδημήσειν τε τὸν προφητευόμενον, πρωτότοκον καὶ θεοῦ υἱὸν ἀναγορεύων. διό φησιν· «καὶ νῦν, ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραήλ, πιστωθήτω δὴ τὸ ῥῆμά σου, ὃ ἐλάλησας τῷ παιδί σου ∆αβίδ, τῷ πατρί μου. ὅτι εἰ ἀληθῶς κατοικήσει θεὸς μετὰ ἀνθρώπων ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς; εἰ ὁ οὐρανὸς καὶ ὁ οὐρανὸς τοῦ οὐρανοῦ οὐκ ἀρκέσουσί σοι;» 6.13.1 Ἀπὸ τοῦ Μιχαία. «Ἀκούσατε, λαοὶ πάντες, καὶ προσεχέτω ἡ γῆ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἐν αὐτῇ, καὶ ἔσται κύριος ὁ θεὸς ὑμῶν εἰς μαρτύριον, κύριος ἐξ οἴκου ἁγίου αὐτοῦ. διότι ἰδοὺ κύριος κύριος ἐκπορεύεται ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ, καὶ καταβήσεται ἐπὶ τὰ ὕψη τῆς γῆς, καὶ σαλευθήσεται τὰ ὄρη ὑποκάτωθεν αὐτοῦ, καὶ αἱ κοιλάδες τακήσονται ὡς κηρὸς ἀπὸ προσώπου πυρός, καὶ ὡς ὕδωρ καταφερόμενον ἐν καταβάσει. δι' ἀσέβειαν Ἰακὼβ πάντα ταῦτα, καὶ δι' ἁμαρτίαν οἴκου Ἰσραήλ.» 6.13.2 Καὶ νῦν ἀκαλύπτως ἐξ οὐρανοῦ κατιὼν κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἐκπορευόμενός τε «ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ» διὰ τῶν προκειμένων κηρύττεται. εἴη δ' ἂν ὁ τοῦ θεοῦ λόγος, ὃν μόνον διὰ τῶν ἔμπροσθεν γενητὸν ὑπάρχειν θεὸν καὶ κύριον μετὰ τὸν ἀνωτάτω καὶ ἐπὶ πάντων ἀπεδείξαμεν. τόπον δ' αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἂν ἁμάρτοις λέγων εἶναι τὴν ἐν οὐρανοῖς βασιλείαν, τόν τε ἔνδοξον τῆς θεότητος αὐτοῦ θρόνον, ὃν θεολογῶν ὁ προφήτης ἔψαλλεν· «ὁ θρόνος σου», φάσκων, «ὁ θεὸς εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα τοῦ αἰῶνος», ἐφ' ὃν αὐτῷ ὁ πατήρ, ὡς ἂν υἱῷ μονογενεῖ, καθέζεσθαι παρεκελεύσατο εἰπών· «κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου». 6.13.3 ταῦτα γὰρ σαφῶς ἤδη πρότερον ἐπὶ μόνον ἀναφέρεσθαι τὸν ἡμέτερον σωτῆρα τὸν θεὸν λόγον παρεστήσαμεν· αὐτὸν δὴ οὖν τοῦτον ὁ παρὼν θεσπίζει λόγος «ἐκπορεύεσθαι ἐκ τοῦ τόπου αὐτοῦ, καταβήσεσθαί τε ἐπὶ τὰ ὕψη τῆς γῆς». 6.13.4 ποῖα δ' ἂν εἴη ταῦτα ἢ ῥητῶς μὲν τὰ ὄρη τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ οἱ βουνοί, περὶ ὧν μυρίαι προφητεῖαι θεσπίζουσιν, αὐτή τε Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ τὸ Σιὼν ὄρος, ἐν ᾧ τὰς πλεί στας ἐποιεῖτο διατριβὰς ὁ σωτὴρ καὶ κύριος ἡμῶν; τούτων δὲ διαφθορὰν ἔσεσθαι καὶ ἀπώλειαν ἐπὶ τῇ τοῦ Χριστοῦ καθόδῳ θεσπίζει. καὶ πρόδηλον ὡς μετὰ τὴν τοῦ σωτῆρος ἡμῶν παρουσίαν καὶ τὰ κατ' αὐτοῦ τετολμημένα τὰ προειρημένα πάντα πεπολιόρκηται καὶ εἰς ἐσχάτην ἐρημίαν ἐλήλυθεν. 6.13.5 οὐ μὴν ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ ἄρχοντες τοῦ Ἰουδαίων ἔθνους, ἥ τε παρ' αὐτοῖς τὸ πρὶν συνεστῶσα βασιλεία, ἱερωσύνη τε καὶ διδασκάλων
