of the living one and abiding for ever and ever. So, the judgment will be thus, as I have said, while the commandment, alas, also comes forth to meet us, convicting the one who is faithless or faithful, obedient or disobedient to the words of the Master, having been diligent or negligent, and thus the unjust will be separated from the just, the disobedient from those who in every way obeyed Christ, those who love the world now from those who love God, and the merciless from the merciful, and the uncompassionate from the compassionate together, and all will stand naked of wealth and honor and power, which they enjoyed in the world, and they will, alas, condemn themselves. Having become self-condemned by their works (263) they will hear: Depart, small and great, who did not obey me, the philanthropic Master! From this just condemnation, O Master, may we be delivered, and may we obtain the portion of your sheep, O Word, freely, as we have no hope of salvation from works, who are condemned now and forever.
32.
That the glorious of the earth and those esteemed for their wealth are deluded by the shadow of things seen, while those who have despised present things come to be in unerring participation of the Divine Spirit. (264)
Seeing me, Master, reviled by the faithful as being a deceiver and one who has been utterly deceived, because I say that I have received the Holy Spirit by your philanthropy and the prayers of my father, have mercy and grant me word, knowledge, wisdom, so that all who oppose me may know that your Divine Spirit speaks within me. Grant me to speak, as you have spoken, grant me also, as you have promised, words which none of them will be able to contradict or withstand, O Savior, for you are the giver of all good things. I, O Christ, even if they say that I, your servant, am deceived, will never be persuaded while I see you, my God, and behold your pure and divine face and receive from it your divine illuminations, illuminating the intelligible eyes of my spirit. But do not allow, O God, all who now believe in you to be deceived by the destructive error of not believing that you enlighten everyone even now
