to stand and pray because the one who is risen is upright; therefore, he who has died with Christ and has been raised with him, stands. Let him pray, however, facing east; for this also is written in the second book of Chronicles, that after the temple of the Lord was completed by King Solomon, at the dedication itself the priests and the Levites and the singers with cymbals and harps stood facing east, praising and confessing and saying: ‘Praise the Lord, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever.’ Let him pray these things after the former prayer, saying: O God almighty, the Father of your Christ, your only-begotten Son, give me an unspotted body, a pure heart, a watchful mind, unerring knowledge, the coming of the Holy Spirit for the possession and full assurance of the truth, through your Christ, through whom to you be glory in the Holy Spirit for ever and ever; amen. These things we have thought it right to ordain also concerning the catechumens. But concerning the bishops ordained by us in our lifetime, we make known to you that these are they. Of Jerusalem, James the brother of the Lord; after he died, the second was Symeon the son of Clopas, after whom the third was Judas the son of James. Of Caesarea in Palestine, first Zacchaeus, who was once a tax collector, after whom was Cornelius, and the third Theophilus. Of Antioch, Euodius by me, Peter, and Ignatius by Paul. Of Alexandria, Annianus was the first, ordained by Mark the evangelist, and the second was Abilius by Luke, also an evangelist. Of the Church of the Romans, Linus, the son of Claudia, was the first, by Paul, and Clement, after the death of Linus, was the second, ordained by me, Peter. Of Ephesus, Timothy by Paul, and John by me, John. Of Smyrna, Ariston was first, after whom was Strataeas the son of Lois, and the third Ariston. Of Pergamum, Gaius; and of Philadelphia, Demetrius by me. And by Paul, Lucius of Cenchreae and Titus of Crete. And Dionysius in Athens, and of Tripolis in Phoenicia, Marthones. Of Laodicea in Phrygia, Archippus, and of Colossae, Philemon. Of Beroea in Macedonia, Onesimus the son of Philemon, and Crescens of the churches in Galatia. And Aquila and Nicetas of the
