having visited the places, it is said “God shall come from Teman, and the Holy One from a mountain shady and wooded.” Then next he adds: “His excellence covered the heavens, and the earth is full of his praise, and his brightness shall be as the light.” 6.15.14 Through which at the same time both his glorious kingdom in the heavens is represented and the praise of the teaching about him which came to be after these things and will be even more so throughout the whole earth. And “horns in his hands” indicates the symbols of his kingdom, by which horns he pushes and gores and drives away the invisible and opposing powers. Following these things he adds: “And he established a mighty love of his strength.” 6.15.15 And a very great sign of his strong disposition and love for man was that “a word should go before his face,” that is, the saving and evangelical word, and that this, having gone forth, should run “into the plains,” so that in a short time it might fill the whole inhabited world with the salvation procured by him for all men, according to the prophecy which said “a word shall go forth before his face, and shall go out into the plains.” But at his second coming, his word will even more and more authoritatively put an end to the things that have been said and to those that follow, which it is not now the time to examine. 6.16.1 From Zechariah. “Thus says the Lord Almighty, After glory he has sent me to the nations that plundered you; for he who touches you is as he who touches the pupil of his eye. For behold, I bring my hand upon them, and they shall be plunder for those who served them, and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.” 6.16.2 The Lord Almighty himself in these words says that he was sent, and he teaches who the sender was, saying “and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.” Therefore, here too you clearly have two using one title, both the sender, the Lord Almighty, and the one sent, having the same name as the sender. 6.16.3 What other sent one would you say than the God Logos foretold to us through many, who confesses to have been sent by the Father, and who clearly said: “After glory he has sent me” showing that pre-existing in glory with the Father, after these things he was sent “to the nations that plundered you”? For having been sent to the nations previously hostile and at war with the people of God, the Logos of God brought them under himself, having plundered them through his disciples, who were a part of the people of the circumcision, whom the nations had long enslaved, “plundering” him through their own idolatry. 6.16.4 Therefore, he says that the nations will suffer what they have inflicted. For as they, having turned the people of God away from their ancestral piety, made them “plunder” for their own demons, so too they themselves will one day be plundered of their ancestral idolatry by those who formerly were enslaved to them, and will be transferred under the yoke of the piety according to the Hebrews. And the Lord says that this will happen through himself, who is to be sent by the Father for such an achievement. 6.16.5 One might also say that certain intelligible and invisible powers are now called “nations,” those that “plundered” and took captive the souls of men, which souls the philanthropic Logos of God says he cares for as for the pupil of his own eye; and a sign of his such care for the race of men is that he did not shrink, being the Logos of God and existing in glory with the Father, from undertaking the visitation to men and the dispensation. 6.17.1 From the same. “Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I am coming and will dwell in your midst, says the Lord. And many nations shall flee for refuge to the Lord in that day, and they shall be to him a people, and I will dwell in your midst, and you shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.” 6.17.2 Since it is now proposed to
