the wealth of divine mysteries, which the Master gives to those who diligently seek and have clearly acquired forgetfulness of the whole world and of the things in it. For how will the one who seeks those things with whole-souled purpose not be truly forgetful of all things here and possess his mind naked of these things and immediately be found alone, outside of all things? Whom the only God sees having become alone for His sake and having denied the world and all the things of the world, the Alone having found him alone is united to him. O awesome dispensation, O ineffable goodness! The things from here on do not ask, do not search, do not seek! For if no one will be able either to speak of or to conceive the multitude of the stars or in general the drops of rain (234) or to number the sand, but also of the other created things the magnitudes and beauties or the natures and the positions or their causes, as they are, how could one be able to declare the compassion of the Creator, which He shows, with the holy souls with which He is united? For certainly He deifies them also by His own union; therefore, of a deified soul, the one wishing to speak of its ways or nature, disposition, mind,

Εἰ γάρ πλῆθος τῶν ἀστέρων ἤ ὅλως ὑετοῦ σταγόνας (234) εἴτε ψάμμον ἀριθμῆσαι, ἀλλά καί λοιπῶν κτισμάτων τά μεγέθη τε καί κάλλη ἤ τάς φύσεις καί τάς θέσεις ἤ τάς τούτων τε αἰτίας, ὡς εἰσίν, οὐδείς ἰσχύσει ἤ εἰπεῖν ἤ ἐννοῆσαι, πῶς τοῦ κτίστου δυνηθείη ἐξειπεῖν τήν εὐσπλαγχνίαν, ἥν ἐνδείκνυται, μεθ᾿ ὧνπερ ἑνωθῇ ψυχῶν ἁγίων; Πάντως γάρ θεοῖ κἀκείνας τῇ ἑνώσει τῇ οἰκείᾳ˙ θεωθείσης ψυχῆς τοίνυν ὁ βουλόμενος τοῦ λέγειν τρόπους ταύτης ἤ τήν φύσιν, τήν διάθεσιν, τήν γνώμην,
