In those same days, the same emperor Justinian sent down to every city divine orders containing the following. An edict concerning the orthodox faith and against impious heretics. and it was posted in every city in the churches. And not long after, a terrible, harmless earthquake occurred in Antioch the great. At that same time, the same emperor also celebrated his third consulship, recalling the patricians Olybrius and Probus, who were in exile, having given them back all their property. In the 12th indiction, the king of Africa was captured with his 479 wife by Belisarius; and they were brought to Constantinople. and while the hippodrome games were being held, they were brought in as captives along with the spoils. At the same time, the column of Julian the Apostate fell, the one set up in the middle of the harbor of Julian; and in place of the same column they erected a cross. And after the consulship of Belisarius, a synod was held in Constantinople under the bishop of Rome, Agapetus; and he deposed Anthemius, the patriarch of Constantinople. and in the same year the bishop of Rome died in Byzantium; and Menas, from the hospice of Sampson, became patriarch in Constantinople. And in the consulship of John the Cappadocian, the churches of the Arians were taken away. And at the same time the Chalke of the palace of Constantinople was completed, adorned with various marbles and mosaic. and the clock near the Augusteum and the basilica was also moved. and at the same time the office of the night-eparch was abolished, and a praetor was created in his place. and in the same year a quaestor was appointed. And in that same consulship, the dedication of the great church took place. In the month of June, in the 3rd indiction, Antioch the great 480 was captured by Chosroes, king of the Persians. and Germanus was sent to fight, having been appointed magister militum, along with his own son Justin. And having accomplished nothing, he sat in Antioch, buying silver for 2 or 3 nomismata per pound from the Antiochenes themselves. And the king of the Persians entered both Apamea and other cities of the east. And at the same time Belisarius was sent down to Rome; and having waged war, he took both Rome and Sicily and the surrounding cities which were held by Wittigis, king of the Goths. and having waged war, and having captured the same Wittigis and his wife and his son, he brought them to Byzantium. And after a short time the same emperor sent Narses the cubicularius with much assistance to Rome against the same Goths. In the month of August, John, surnamed the Cappadocian, was deposed, having twice served in the office of the praetorian prefects. and having been confiscated he was sent to Cyzicus, having been ordained a deacon in Artake; and there, having conspired with some landowners, they murdered Eusebius the bishop of the same city of the Cyzicenes. and the emperor, learning of this and being angry at the same John, sent and had him interrogated there for the murder that had occurred. and by order of the same 481 emperor he was exiled from there to Antinoë. and after a time, having been recalled, he died in Byzantium. In the 5th indiction, such an event happened to occur. a certain woman living near the so-called Golden Gate, being possessed one night, babbled many things, so that the crowds of Constantinople ran together and went in a litany to Saint Diomedes in Jerusalem and brought the woman down from her house and brought her into the church of Saint Diomedes; for she was saying that after three days the sea would rise and take everyone. And with everyone processing in litany and crying "Lord have mercy"; for it was heard that many cities had also been swallowed up. then indeed in both Egypt and in Alexandria a plague among men occurred. And the same emperor sent Narses the
