"the first" and "to the last sea" "the living water will go out," by which the ends of the whole earth are revealed, those toward the eastern ocean called "the first sea" and those toward the setting sun signified by "the last sea," which the "living water" of the salvific and evangelical teaching has also filled, concerning which he again taught, saying: "whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty for eternity," and again: "rivers," he says, "from his belly will flow of living water" "leaping up into eternal life," 6.18.50 and again: "if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink." Therefore, after the salvific and spiritual stream gushed forth from Jerusalem upon every race of men, which is more clearly revealed in another place through the words "for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem, and he shall judge between the nations," "the Lord," he says, "will be king," 6.18.51 and he will not be in Jerusalem nor over the nation of the Jews, but "over all the earth in that day," and "the Lord will be one, and his name one, encircling all the earth." These things also are in harmony with what is cited from the Psalms, through which it was said: "God has reigned over the nations," and again: "Say among the nations, the Lord has reigned." All these things together are prophesied to be in the days of the Lord; 6.18.52 for at the beginning of the whole prophecy, "behold the days," he says, "of the Lord are coming," and these things will be. What then are these but the siege of Jerusalem and the Lord's removal to the Mount of Olives, and the "the Lord will be present" and the events concerning the day of his passion, and the "living water" that flowed over the whole world, and upon all these things the kingdom of the Lord ruling over all nations, "and his name one, filling all the earth," the end of which things we have summarized? 6.18.53 And it is also manifest how from the title of Christ the God, the name of Christians filled the whole world; which the saying also presents, which says "and his name is one, encircling all the earth and the wilderness." And it will be possible for you at your leisure, having examined each word, to consider at length the things that have been understood. 6.19.1 From Baruch. "Who has gone up into heaven and taken her"—it refers to wisdom—"and brought her down from the clouds? Who has gone over the sea and found her, and will bring her for choice gold? There is no one who knows her way, nor one who considers her path. But he who knows all things knows her, he found her with his understanding; he who prepared her for eternal time filled her with four-footed beasts; he who sends forth the light, and it goes, called it, and it obeyed him with trembling; and the stars shone in their watches and were glad; he called them, and they said, Here we are; 6.19.2 they shone with gladness for him who made them. This is our God, no other shall be accounted of in comparison to him. He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant and to Israel his beloved. Afterward he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men." It is necessary to add nothing to the divine voices which clearly present the problem. 6.20.1 From Isaiah. "The vision of Egypt. Behold, the Lord sits on a light cloud and will come into Egypt, and the handmade idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and their heart shall be defeated in them. And the Egyptians shall be stirred up against the Egyptians, and a man will fight his brother and a man his neighbor, city against city and law against law. And the spirit of the Egyptians will be troubled in them, and I will scatter their counsel, and they will question their gods and their images and those who speak from the earth and the ventriloquists. And I will deliver Egypt into the hands of harsh lords, and harsh kings will rule over them," and so on.
