Ptolemy Physcon reigned as the 8th king of Alexandria for 18 years. And it was the year 5377 of the world. He was also called Soter, and he was the elder son of Ptolemy Euergetes and Cleopatra. In the 10th year of his reign, his mother drove him out, and he was ruling in Cyprus; and she appointed her younger son and his brother, Alexander, as king with her; who reigned over Alexandria for 15 years, and being pursued by the troops to Lycia, 350 to the city of Myra, he flees with his wife and daughter and from there to Cyprus with his son, and is killed by the admiral Chaereas while being fought. After whom, handing over the kingdom again to his brother Ptolemy Soter, also called Physcon because of the bulk of his body, the Alexandrians received him as a 2nd king for another 8 years. In total, 33 years. which, being after the death of his brother Alexander, are thus arranged.

KINGS OF SYRIA Demetrius, son of Seleucus, the 10th king of Syria, reigned for 12 years, the

surnamed Soter. And it was the year 5323 of the world. This Demetrius, having been given as a hostage to Rome by his father Seleucus, escaped and arrived in Tripolis of Phoenicia in a few days, and attacking, he kills both Lysias, the guardian of the child Antiochus, and Antiochus himself, having surprisingly conquered so great a dominion in all those days. Against him, Ptolemy allied with Alexander through foreign mercenaries, as did Attalus, king of Pergamum, who was also bringing him back; opposing whom Demetrius dies in the 12th year of his reign, and Alexander the pretender holds Syria for 5 years, and is killed while fighting against Ptolemy near Antioch, who was bringing Demetrius the son of Demetrius to the kingship of Syria. Ptolemy also falls and dies not long after. Alexander reigned as the 11th king of Syria and Asia for 9 years. He was the son of Antiochus Epiphanes. But some say he reigned for 10 years, among them also Eusebius. And it was the year 5335 of the world. He, having been befriended by Ptolemy, married his daughter Cleopatra, and while they were in Ptolemais, Jonathan came and was befriended. Tryphon, also called Diodotus, having been entrusted with the administration of affairs by Alexander Balas, took Antiochus, the son of Alexander, who was being raised by Imalcue the Arab, and made war on Demetrius, having been befriended by Jona- 351 than, at the time when Jonathan, having overcome many, renewed his brother's friendship with the Romans. But Tryphon, fearing Jonathan, in order to kill the boy Antiochus and proclaim himself king, persuades him, when he came to him with a force, to dismiss all but a thousand and to travel with him to Ptolemais to take over the forces there. And Jonathan, deceived, went with only a thousand men into Ptolemais. And having bound him, Tryphon marches against the Jews, whose leader was Simon, the brother of Jonathan, and he demanded 100 talents and two of Jonathan's own sons in his stead. But Simon, knowing that he was lying in everything, nevertheless gave everything and even so did not save his brother from murder. Demetrius, son of Demetrius, the 12th king of Syria and Asia, reigned for the 1st time for 3 years, also called Sirippides. And it was the year 5344 of the world. Antiochus Sidetes reigned as the 13th king of Syria and Asia for 9 years. And it was the year 5347 of the world. He was the brother of this Demetrius. He, coming from Side, besieges Tryphon, who had killed Jonathan and Antiochus the son of Alexander and proclaimed himself king of Syria, who had fled to Dara and from there to Orthosia. from which, being pursued, he dies by leaping into a fire. Demetrius reigned as the 14th king of Syria and Asia for the 2nd time for 4 years. And it was the year 5356 of the world. Antiochus Grypus reigned as the 15th king of Syria and Asia for 26 years. And it was the year 5360 of the world. It should be known that the 26 years are not of Antiochus Grypus alone, but also of Cyzicenus. For first Grypus, having reigned for 4 years, was driven out by Cyzicenus, and he reigned
