And writing certain books in the name of great men, in the name of Seth they say there are seven books, and other different books they call Allogeneis, and another in the name of Abraham, which they claim is an apocalypse, full of all wickedness, and others in the name of Moses and others of others. And bringing their own mind down into great foolishness, they say that a certain woman, Horaia, was the wife of Seth. But observe, beloved, their senselessness, so that in every way you may condemn their theatricality and mythical vanity and fabricated nonsense. For there are certain other heresies which say that there is a certain power, which they name Horaia; therefore, this power considered among others and called Horaia, these men say is the wife of Seth. From which 2.76 we are able to show, as you know, beloved, both that Seth was a man by nature and not having received something altered from above, and was the brother by nature of Cain and Abel from one father and one mother. "For," it says, "Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain," and she gave him the name Cain, which is interpreted as possession, saying, "I have gotten a son through the Lord God." And again concerning Abel, "Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son and called his name Abel." And after many things, after Abel had died, "And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Seth," which is interpreted as replacement; "for God has appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain killed." And the "I have gotten through God" and "God has appointed me" shows one God, the maker of all things and giver of those who have been born. That these men had wives, both Cain and Seth, is clear; for Abel was killed younger, not yet having married. 6. And as is found in the Jubilees, also called the Little Genesis, the book also contains the names of the wives of both Cain and Seth, so that in every way these men who have stitched myths into life may be put to shame. For since Adam had begotten sons and daughters, it became necessary at that time for the sons to be joined to their own sisters; for such a thing was not unlawful. Since there was no other race. But as men multiplied and the generation of Adam extended, the strictness concerning solemn marriage was broadened, proceeding in order. And since sons were born to Adam and sons of sons, and daughters were born from them in succession of lineage, finally they no longer took their own sisters to marriage, but the ordinance concerning solemn marriage was established into good law even before the written law through Moses, and they took their wives from their paternal cousins. And so as men were now multiplying, the two lines were intermingled, that of Cain with the line of Seth, and that of Seth with the other, and the other lines of the sons of Adam. From this point
