or of what sort He is, whom I also see, or how I see, or what I see; yet seeing what I saw, and lamenting that I am unable to know this manner nor to conceive it at all or understand it in any way, how He whom I see, how He sees me, I saw Him again suddenly become whole inside the house and the storage jar, and united ineffably, joined unutterably, and mingled with me without confusion, as fire with iron and light indeed with glass, and He made me like fire and showed me to be like light, and I became that which I was seeing before this and was contemplating from afar, and I do not know how to tell you the paradox of the manner; (251) for I was not able to know, nor do I now know at all, how He entered, how He was united. And having been united, how can I tell you who He is who was united with me, and with whom I was united? I shudder and I am afraid lest, if I speak, you might disbelieve and fall into blasphemy out of ignorance and destroy your soul, my brother. Nevertheless, since I and He with whom I was united have become one, what shall I call myself? God, being double in nature and one in hypostasis, has made me double.
