And so, by means of both money and words, having softened their savagery and suggesting what was advantageous, he urged the crossing. 10.11.9 But he loved Isangeles especially, both for his exceeding spirit and the genuineness of his reputation and the purity of his life, knowing at the same time how much truth mattered to him, as he never preferred anything to it; for he differed from all the Latins in all things as much as the sun from the stars. For this very reason he kept him with himself for a time. Therefore, when all had taken leave of the emperor and, via the strait of the Propontis, had reached Damalion, being relieved of the annoyance from them, he often sent for Isangeles, teaching him at the same time more clearly what was likely to happen to the Latins along the road, and he also laid bare the opinion he held concerning the mind of the Franks. Having repeated these things many times to Isangeles and, as it were, having opened the gates of his soul to him and made everything clear, he enjoined him to be ever vigilant against the wickedness of Bohemond, so that if he should wish to break the treaty, he might prevent him from the attempt and by every means undo his schemes. But he said to the emperor: "Bohemond, having acquired perjury and deceit from his ancestors like some inheritance, it would be a very great wonder if he should keep his oaths; I, however, will hasten as far as possible to always fulfill what has been commanded." And having taken leave of the emperor, he departed to be united with the whole army of the Celts. 10.11.10 The emperor, however, wished to go with the Celts against the barbarians, but he feared their countless multitude. He therefore reasoned that it was necessary to occupy Pelecanum, so that by staying near Nicaea he might learn what was happening to the Celts, and at the same time about the raids of the Turks from without and the situation of those within Nicaea. For he considered it a terrible thing if he himself should not achieve some strategic success in the meantime, and he was considering, so that if he should find circumstances favorable, he himself might take Nicaea and not receive it from the Celts according to what had been sworn by them. But he kept this plan submerged, and whatever he was arranging and the reason why it was happening, he and he alone knew, having entrusted this to Boutoumites alone and having sent him for the purpose of winning over the barbarians inside Nicaea through all sorts of promises and complete immunity, while in part also threatening that they would suffer so many and such things and become fodder for the sword if they were captured by the Celts, knowing Boutoumites of old to be most loyal and energetic in such matters. So these things had proceeded in this way from the beginning.

11.1.1 But Bohemond and all the counts, having united where they were about to sail across to Cibotus, were awaiting the arrival of Isangeles with Godefrey. But being a countless multitude, since they could not wait for him there because of the shortage of fodder, although they were awaiting the arrival of the king with Isangeles, so that, after taking leave of him there, they might take the road to Nicaea, having divided into two groups, some marched towards Nicaea through the lands of the Bithynians and Nicomedia, while others, having crossed the strait of Cibotus, came together at the same place.
