of true and wonderful things, which the mouth of the Lord both spoke beforehand and now speaks to all. Unless you cast off glory, unless you throw away wealth, unless you strip off vain conceit completely, unless you become the last of all in your deeds and in your very thoughts, or rather, in your concepts consider yourselves to be the last of all, you will not acquire streams of tears, nor purification of the flesh, nor will you see how these things are effected. Therefore, mourn for yourselves, therefore, repent, therefore, pour forth hot tears every day, that you may wash clean the spiritual eyes of the heart, (267) that you may behold the light that has shone in the world, which shining cries out and shouts: I was, am, and will be the light of the world, and I wish to be seen. For to this end I have come bodily into the world, the one having become dual and remaining one just so, that those who faithfully worship me as visible God and keep my commandments might be invisibly illumined and, being spiritually initiated into the glory of my dread divinity, and of the flesh that was assumed, and mystically beholding the duality of the natures, might then without hesitation hymn me as one God. For otherwise it is not possible to know well my economy, and my condescension, and to shudder and to worship as God me who became in the form of a man and remained God inexpressibly: two in one, indivisible in hypostasis, not in nature; I am therefore one God, and a perfect man, complete, whole, flesh, soul, mind and reason; a whole man and God in two substances, likewise dual in natures, with dual energies, and with dual wills in one hypostasis, God and man together, I am one of the Trinity. Those who have thus believed me to be and have come to know me by purifying themselves with zeal and repentance, and have been able to perceive in a pure heart and be spiritually initiated into my economy, they will love me with their whole heart, and they will also keep all my commandments, being astonished at my infinite compassion, and they will be with me and partakers of glory,
