to supply the need of the body; Do You therefore, even now, look upon Your holy Church, and increase it, and multiply those who preside in it, and give them power to labor with word and deed for the edification of Your people. Do You also now look upon this Your servant, who is given to the presbytery by the vote and judgment of the whole clergy, and fill him with the Spirit of grace and counsel, to help and govern Your people with a pure heart, just as you looked upon the people of Your choice, and commanded Moses to choose elders, whom You filled with the Spirit. And now, Lord, grant that the Spirit of Your grace may be unfailingly preserved in us, so that, being filled with workings of healing and the word of teaching, he may in meekness instruct Your people and serve You sincerely with a pure mind and a willing soul, and blamelessly perform the sacred rites for Your people, through Your Christ, through whom to You be glory, honor, and worship in the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever; amen. And concerning the ordination of a deacon, I, Philip, give this ordinance. You shall appoint a deacon, O bishop, by laying your hands upon him, with all the presbytery and the deacons standing by you, and praying, you shall say: O God Almighty, the true and unerring, who are rich unto all that call upon You in truth, who are fearful in counsel, wise in understanding, mighty and great; hear our prayer, O Lord, and give ear to our supplication, and make Your face to shine upon this Your servant, who is appointed to the ministry for You, and fill him with the Spirit and with power, as You filled Stephen the protomartyr and imitator of the sufferings of Your Christ; and grant that he, having acceptably ministered the service committed to him, steadfastly, blamelessly, and without reproach, may be counted worthy of a higher degree, through the mediation of Your Christ, Your only-begotten Son, through whom to You be glory, honor, and worship in the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever; amen. And concerning a deaconess, I, Bartholomew, give this ordinance.
