grass to the grass-eaters, and to some meat, to others seeds, and to us grain for suitable and fitting nourishment and other various things, some for use, others for health, and others for enjoyment. For all these things, therefore, you are to be praised for your beneficence to all through Christ, through whom to you be glory, honor, and reverence in the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. And for those who have fallen asleep in Christ, after saying the words of the first prayer, that we may not repeat them, the deacon shall add these also: And for our brethren who have fallen asleep in Christ, let us pray, for the repose of this man or this woman let us pray, so that the philanthropic God, receiving his soul, may overlook in him every sin, voluntary and involuntary, and becoming merciful and gracious may place him in the region of the pious at rest, in the bosom of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, with all those who from eternity have pleased him and done his will, whence have fled pain and grief and groaning. Let us arise; let us commend ourselves and one another to the eternal God through the Word who was in the beginning. And let the bishop say: O you who are by nature immortal and without end, from whom every immortal and mortal thing has come into being, who made the rational creature, man, the citizen of the world, mortal by constitution, and promised a resurrection, who did not allow Enoch and Elijah to experience death; the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, you are not the God of the dead, but of the living; for all the souls live with you and the spirits of the righteous are in your hand, whom torment will not touch; for all the sanctified are under your hands; look now yourself upon this your servant, whom you have chosen and received to another lot, and forgive him, if he has sinned in any way, unwillingly or willingly, and set gracious angels beside him; and place him in the bosom of the patriarchs and the prophets and the apostles, and of all those who from eternity have pleased you, where there is no grief and pain and groaning, but a place of the pious at rest and a land of the upright dedicated to you and of those in it who see the glory of your Christ, through whom to you be glory, honor, and reverence, thanksgiving and adoration in the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. And let the deacon say: Bow down and be blessed. And let the bishop give thanks for them, saying these things:

Καὶ ὁ διάκονος λεγέτω· Κλίνατε καὶ εὐλογεῖσθε. Καὶ ὁ ἐπίσκοπος εὐχαριστείτω ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν λέγων τάδε·
