having Bohemond in mind. And indeed, having caught up with him, they both approached him and said they embraced friendship with him; but he, such as he was, gladly received them. But when those left behind on the shore for the sake of plunder returned and did not see their own fleet, they threw themselves recklessly into the sea and were drowned. 11.10.7 The sea-lords of the Roman fleet and Landulph himself, having reached Cyprus, met together and deliberated about asking for peace. Therefore, when all were of one mind on this, Butumites was sent to Bohemond. Therefore, having seen him and detained him for fifteen whole days, since a famine had also seized Laodicea and Bohemond was again Bohemond and had not changed nor indeed had he learned to make peace, he sent for him and said: “You yourself have not come here for friendship or peace, but in order to burn my ships. Go away then; for it is enough for you just to be released from here unmutilated.” 11.10.8 Departing therefore from there, he reached those who had sent him at the harbor of Cyprus. And having learned more of Bohemond's evil intent from messages from there and that it was impossible to make a truce with the emperor, they departed from there, and under full sail they sailed over the watery path towards the great city. But near Syce, a great storm and violent surge arose, and the ships, dashed against the land, were all half-wrecked, except for the ships which Tatikios commanded. 11.10.9 But the affairs concerning the Pisan fleet had proceeded in this way; but Bohemond, being most wicked by nature, feared that the emperor might seize Korykos beforehand and, having anchored a Roman fleet in the harbor, might both guard Cyprus and also keep away the allies from Lombardy who intended to come to him through the eastern coast. Therefore, considering these things, he himself planned to rebuild this and seize the harbor. For Korykos, previously being a very strong city, had come to be ruined in later times. But the emperor, having foreseen these things and anticipated his plans, sent the eunuch Eustathios, whom he had appointed great drungarius of the fleet from the rank of kanikleios, instructing him to hasten to take Korykos and quickly to rebuild both it and the fortress of Seleucia, which was six stades away from it, and to leave a sufficient force in them, and to appoint as duke Strategios Strabos, a man small in body, but great and mighty in military experience, and also to moor a sufficient fleet in the harbor and to order them to be vigilant and to lie in wait for those coming from Lombardy to the aid of Bohemond, and also to assist Cyprus. 11.10.10 Therefore, the said drungarius of the fleet went out and, having anticipated the plans of Bohemond, he rebuilt it and restored it to its former state. And straightway having rebuilt Seleucia and fortified it all around with ditches, and having left sufficient forces in both with the duke Strategios, he went down to the harbor and, having left a sufficient fleet in it according to the emperor’s instructions, he returned to the great city, and having been greatly praised by the emperor, he was lavishly honored.

11.11.1 But these were the events concerning Korykos; but after the passing of a year, the emperor, having learned that a Genoese fleet was also preparing to set out in alliance with the Franks, guessing that they too would be the cause of no small harm to the Roman empire, [he sent] Cantacuzenus through the mainland with a sufficient force, and having swiftly equipped Landulph with a fleet through

Παραχρῆμα δὲ καὶ τὴν Σελεύκειαν ἀνοικοδομήσας καὶ κατοχυρώσας διὰ τάφρων γυρόθεν δυνάμεις τε ἱκανὰς ἐν ἀμφοτέροις καταλιπὼν μετὰ τοῦ δουκὸς Στρατηγίου κατ ελθὼν εἰς τὸν λιμένα καὶ στόλον ἀποχρῶντα ἐν αὐτῷ κατα λιπὼν κατὰ τὰς τοῦ αὐτοκράτορος εἰσηγήσεις ἐπαναζεύ γνυσι πρὸς τὴν μεγαλόπολιν, καὶ μεγάλως παρὰ τοῦ αὐτοκράτορος ἐπαινεθεὶς δαψιλῶς πεφιλοτίμηται.
