Therefore he also promised to speak to them in other tongues, as he also did speak, and they did not enter. For he is found saying this to his disciples, 'To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom, but to them in parables, so that seeing they may not see,' and what follows. Everywhere therefore in the New [Testament] it is clear to everyone that the things from the Old [Testament] being fulfilled are not of one god and another god, but the two testaments consist of the same one. ˉιˉε 20and20 ˉκˉγ 20scholion20. “Let women be silent in church; for it is not permitted for them to speak, but let them be in submission, as the law also says.” ˉιˉε 20and20 ˉκˉγ 20refutation20. If the holy apostle of God commands order for the holy church of God according to the law, the law is not disorderly, from which the order is transferred, nor does the law belong 2.171 to another god, having subjected the woman to the man. For this is also pleasing to the apostle in the legislation of the church, as he says: “as the law also says.” But where did the law say this except when God said to Eve immediately, “your turning shall be to your husband, and he will rule over you”? For even if in other places, still the beginning is from here. If, therefore, from that time the woman was subjected to the man by God's command, and the apostle consequently subjects her, he is not, by his own command, acting contrary to the God who made the man and the woman, but shows by all means that the apostle is a lawgiver of the same God, whose also were the law and the whole Old Testament, and of the same one is the New Testament, that is, the two testaments, which subjected the woman then and now to the man for the sake of a pious and corresponding orderliness. ˉιˉ 20and20 ˉκˉδ 20scholion20. Concerning the resurrection of the dead: “Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you.” And that “if Christ has not been raised, it is in vain” and what follows. “Thus we preach and thus you believed,” “that Christ died and was buried and has been raised on the third day.” “But when this mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the word that is written: Death is swallowed up in victory.” ˉιˉ 20and20 ˉκˉδ 20refutation20. “Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you.” If he preached the gospel and now makes it known again, there is not some other gospel nor other knowledge after the one and only, which happens to be one through the four gospels and the apostles, in order to refute Marcion who came after so many years, after the time of the one called Hyginus, the bishop of the Romans who was the ninth in succession from the martyrdom of the apostles Peter and 2.172 Paul. Therefore the same apostle, making things secure, said, “But even if we or an angel should preach a gospel to you contrary to what you received, let him be accursed,” knowing by the Holy Spirit that Marcion and those with him were going to pervert the way that was well established. Whence he no longer said, “I preach the gospel to you,” but “I make known to you the gospel,” it not being another, but “which I already preached to you,” of which I make a reminder to you. “I make known to you in what manner I preached the gospel to you, if you hold fast, unless you believed in vain.” For if you do not hold fast, as I preached to you, apart from it you have believed in vain. “For I preached to you that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he has been raised on the third day, according to the Scriptures” and not according to a myth, and not according to the teaching of those who are going to speak on their own authority things that have not been written; for the Jews on their own authority say that he was not raised, but Marcion and the others say on their own authority that he suffered and was buried in appearance, but I make you secure according to the Scriptures. For he immediately adds, saying, “thus we preach and thus you believed, that Christ died and was buried and has been raised on the third day” and immediately, “if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is in vain.” And after all these things, “For it is necessary that the
