1026 Ps 107,2b His glory is the practical and contemplative state according to which he is disposed toward moral and intellectual virtue. 1027 Ps 107,3 To whom the true light has dawned, rising early to the Lord, walking decently as in the day, striking the psaltery and playing the harp they sing melodies to the all-wise God, sending up the hymns rhythmically and harmoniously. It is said in the psalm what a psaltery is and what a harp is. 1028 Ps 107,5 The mercy is magnified unto heaven, beginning from the earth; For the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord. The end result is for those who began from the earth to be shown mercy to reach heaven so as to inherit the kingdom of heaven. And his truth is also magnified in the clouds that minister the spiritual rain, in Moses and the prophets, since their ministry, beginning from the shadow, ends in the truth, so that they too worship the Father in spirit and in truth, just like the apostles and all the disciples of the Spirit. 1029 Ps 107,6 From the first word until "Over all the earth be thy glory" it is the same as that of the 50th, and from the next verse until the end, of the 59th; therefore, having said each of the preceding things there, we now abbreviate. 1030 Ps 107,6 When God is exalted in those who bear the image of the heavenly one and are for this reason called heavens, his glory extends over all the earth that is able to bear fruit a hundredfold, sixtyfold, thirtyfold; or when God is exalted over the contemplative natures of the world which are called heavens, his glory happens to be over the practical ones, which are named earth. 1031 Ps 107,7 Not otherwise could those worthy of being loved by you be delivered from the enemies possessing them or also surrounding them, than by you saving them with your right hand and hearing me who intercedes for them. 1032 Ps 107,8-10 Shoulder is interpreted as Shechem, being a symbol of work. The Lord therefore, having been lifted up on the cross and having ascended, divided the works of men so as to justify some, and to reject others; for he is a righteous judge. Therefore also the earthly place, because it is somewhere below called a valley of the human bodies dwelling in it, is called a measuring out of the tabernacles of the inhabiting souls because he also provides for things below and here. At any rate, he sent the heralds of truth to all nations, having deemed it right for the gospel to be preached. Gilead is interpreted as migration, Manasseh as from forgetfulness, Ephraim as fruitfulness. The Savior will say therefore, "Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine," meaning the one migrating from wickedness to truth, or from vice to virtue, or from earth to heaven; and mine also is he who has overcome all forgetfulness of good things and has been born from it. For he who comes to remembrance after forgetfulness is Manasseh, that is, one from forgetfulness, having released and left behind the forgetfulness by which he had forgotten the good things of God. But also the great fruitfulness of the believing nations has become a protection and help for the Savior; for just as Paul writes to those who had been helped by him that they were his joy and crown, so also the Savior has as a help a crown woven for him from those who bear the fruit of righteousness and truth. And Judah is his king, not because he reigns over him, but because being a king he is made his own. Such is David, or perhaps everyone who gives thanks for what he has accomplished is Judah, which is interpreted as confession. Moab, however, because he is for the chastisement of those handed over to him by the Lord, is the cauldron of the hope of the one who says it. And the cauldron in many places in the prophets signifies punishment. Since, therefore, punishments are inflicted with a good intention, having a good hope succeeding them, it is a cauldron of hope and expectation of good things. Over Idumea I will stretch out my shoe. If it were the person of the Savior saying these things, since Idumea is interpreted as earthly, he will say that he will make his journey over the earth and earthly things; for a symbol
