or rather of Christ speaking: The first man from the earth was certainly created of dust, but the second man came down from heaven. Attend to what is being said: therefore as is the first, the one of dust, so also all who are born from him are of dust; and as is Christ, the heavenly Lord, so also are all who have believed in Him heavenly, having been born from above, and likewise baptized in the All-Holy Spirit; as is the One who begot, truly God, so also are those born from Him such, from God gods by adoption and all sons of the Most High, as the divine mouth says. Have you heard the words of God, have you heard how He separates the faithful from the others (333), how He has given a sign and a mark to His servants, so that they might not be deceived by the words of other teachers? From the earth, he says, the first, because he was created of dust, but the second man, the Lord of all, came down from heaven. The first caused death for all men and corruption through the transgression; but the second has given to the world and now provides to all the faithful light, life, and incorruption.
