writing, and saying expressly: For in Christ Jesus through the Gospel I have begotten you. Since, therefore, the Church of the Savior is also one; for all who have believed are joined into one body; and again, it is many; for the members of the body are many. Through Zion he called the common assembly of the pious; and through the daughters of Judea, the gatherings of the believers in cities and villages, and fields, and uttermost parts. He says that both the one and the other have been filled with gladness at the just judgments of the judge. 9. "For you, Lord, are most high over all the earth: you are exalted far above all gods." All rejoice and exult, having received the knowledge of the true God and king, and having seen the refutation of the gods that are not. For their vanity was refuted, but your 80.1657 highness was shown. Since we need not only faith, but also good action, the prophet necessarily offers this counsel as well. 10. "You that love the Lord, hate evil." If the good is lovely to you, loathe the opposite. "For what fellowship has light with darkness?" However, through evil he forbade all the forms of wickedness. The Lord preserves the souls of his saints; he will deliver them from the hand of the sinner." By turning away from evil, and caring for a right and just way of life, you will have as guardian and protector the Lord of all, and you will become stronger than the enemies who rise up against you. 11. "Light has sprung up for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart." For not all men wished to enjoy the light, nor did all receive the gladness that comes from faith. For the Sun of righteousness himself sent down the rays of salvation to all; but there are those who closed their eyes and did not wish to see the light. 12. "Rejoice, you righteous, in the Lord; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness." Therefore, all you who have enjoyed the light, and have embraced the lot of virtue, exult, and hymn God, declaring the multitude of his benefactions. For here he called the confession thanksgiving.

INTERPRETATION OF THE 7TH PSALM. 1. "A Psalm of David." This psalm also has the same meaning;

for it prophesies both manifestations of the Savior; but it goes through most things concerning the first. "Sing to the Lord a new song." Since it proclaims a change of old things, and foretells a certain new way of life, it fittingly commands also that a new song be offered to God. "For the Lord has done wonderful things." For the things done by the God of all are supernatural and marvelous. "His right hand has brought salvation for him, and his holy arm." We have often said that he calls the operation 'hand,' and the good operation 'right hand.' And he says that the salvation of men is the work of his own power. And using immeasurable love for mankind, he considers the life of men his own gain. For this very reason he did not say: His right hand saved 80.1660 them, but "it brought salvation for him." For having freed them from the error of idols, and having shown the loftiness of his kingdom, he imparted salvation. And this he has shown more clearly through the things that follow. 2. "The Lord has made known his salvation: in the sight of the nations he has revealed his righteousness." To all men he has brought the streams of salvation, and has shown his righteous kingdom to the nations. 3. "He has remembered his mercy to Jacob, and his truth to the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God." These things are very much like the oracles of Isaiah the prophet. For through him the God of all said to the Lord Christ: "I have given you for a covenant of the people, for a light of the nations, that you might be for salvation to the end of the earth." For since
