(362) I died to all relatives and friends, yes, I truly died by my will, and I sought only the hand of God; and it, seeing me do this, touched me secretly, grasped my hand and led me while I was in the midst of darkness. So I perceived it and, rejoicing, I followed, I ran intensely by night and day, I walked vigorously with eagerness, but while walking I was motionless and then I advanced forward all the more, O mysteries, O contests, O prizes! As I was thus running in the middle of the stadium that ineffable hand has descended, through the intercession of my holy father, and touched my wretched head and has given me the crown of victory, but it rather has become a crown for me, and seeing it I had unspeakable gladness, unspeakable joy, unspeakable delight - for how could it be otherwise? having conquered the whole world and put to shame the ruler of the world and from the hand of God a divine crown, or rather, having received the very hand of the Master of all - a wonder! a hand instead of a crown, which, shining, was seen immaterially, unceasingly by me and without evening. This was offered to me like a breast and, as to a son of God, it richly supplied for me to suck the milk of incorruption, O sweetness, O unspeakable pleasure! This also became for me a cup of a divine drink (363) and of an immortal stream. Partaking of which I was also filled with the heavenly nourishment, on which angels alone are fed and are kept incorruptible, secondary lights of the First by participation. Thus we too have all become partakers of the divine and ineffable nature, children of the Father, and brothers of Christ, baptized in the All-Holy Spirit; yet surely not all of us have recognized the grace,
