ΑΝΕΠΙΓΡΑΦΟΣ ΕΠΙ ΕΝΑΡΕΤΟΙΣ ΑΝΔΡΑΣΙΝ

[1] Ἤδη γνώριμος ὑμῖν ἐστιν ὁ δεῖνα, ὡς αὐτὰ δηλοῖ τὰ διηγήματα τοῦ ἀνδρός. Ἐπὶ πάσης γὰρ ὑμᾶς προφάσεως ἔχει ἡ γλῶττα αὐτοῦ: ἐν ὀρθοδόξων μνήμῃ, ἐν ἀσκητῶν φιλοξενίᾳ, ἐν πάσῃ ἀρετῇ πρώτους ὑμᾶς ὁ ἀνὴρ ἄγει. Κἂν διδασκάλων τις μνησθῇ, οὐκ ἀνέχεται προθεῖναι ὑμῶν ἑτέρους: ἐὰν ἀγωνιστὰς τῆς εὐσεβείας καὶ ἱκανοὺς τὸ πιθανὸν τῆς αἱρέσεως διελέγξαι, οὐκ ἂν ἕλοιτο ἕτερον πρὸ ὑμῶν ἀριθμῆσαι πρὸς πάντα ἄμαχον ὑμῖν καὶ ἀνανταγώνιστον τὴν ἀρετὴν μαρτυρῶν. Καὶ οὐ πολὺς αὐτῷ πόνος πεῖσαι ταῦτα λέγοντι. Διηγεῖται γὰρ ἀκοαῖς μείζονα ἐπισταμένων ἀνθρώπων ἢ ὧν ἄν τις νομισθείη μεθ' ὑπερβολῆς ἀπαγγέλλειν. Οὗτος τοίνυν ἐπανιὼν πρὸς ὑμᾶς γράμματα ᾔτησεν, οὐχ ἵνα ἑαυτὸν ὑμῖν οἰκειώσῃ δι' ἡμῶν, ἀλλ' ἵνα ἐμὲ εὐεργετήσῃ τοῦ προσφθέγξασθαι τοῖς ἀγαπητοῖς μου ἀφορμὴν παρασχόμενος: ὃν ἀμείψεται ὁ Κύριος τῆς ἀγαθῆς προαιρέσεως. Καὶ ὑμεῖς δὲ αὐτῷ εὐχαῖς καὶ τῇ ἀγαθῇ ὑμῶν περὶ πάντας προαιρέσει τὴν κατὰ δύναμιν χάριν διανείματε. Σημάνατε δὲ ἡμῖν καὶ τὰ τῶν Ἐκκλησιῶν ὅπως ἔχει.
