I have enjoyed your care. For not from my own achievements did I receive the enjoyment of my fatherland and see the temple, but from your mercy and your love for mankind. For these things I will worship you, for these things I will confess to you, that though I was worthy of punishment and vengeance, and it was just for me to spend my time continually in a foreign land, you swiftly brought me back. For you have magnified your holy name over all. What he says is this: Not for your good deeds alone will I give thanks, but also for your ineffable glory itself, and your infinite greatness, and your unspeakable nature. For you have magnified, he says, your holy name over all; that is, through good deeds, through the elements, through those in heaven, through those on earth, through punishments, through what is done to enemies, through what is done to one's own people. For there is no part of creation, above or below, that does not send forth a voice brighter than a trumpet, proclaiming the greatness of your name. So whether you speak of angels, or archangels, or demons and the inanimate elements, or stones, or seeds, or the sun, or the moon, or the earth, or the seas, or swimming creatures, or flying creatures, or lakes, or springs, or rivers, through all things your name is shown to be great. But another, instead of, "You have magnified your holy name over all," said, "For you have magnified your saying above all your names." Another, "Your oracle, 'On whatever day I call upon you, hear me quickly.'" Another, "On whatever day I called upon you, you heard me." For God also promised this, saying: "On whatever day you call upon me, I will hear you, and I will say, 'Behold, while you are speaking, I am here.'" And he himself asks this. For such are souls in pain; they wish to see the swiftest deliverance from their troubles. You will greatly exalt me in my soul with your power. Another, "You 55.409 established powers for my soul." For earlier also, instead of, "Hear me," another said, "You heard me." What then is the meaning of what was said? High things are called *meteora*, from being lifted up, and the surgings of the sea are its waves and its heights, from being lifted up. Therefore, "You will greatly exalt," is, "You will lift me up, you will exalt me." This he has also put elsewhere, saying: "According to your height you have greatly exalted the sons of men;" that is, "You have lifted up, you have exalted." Thus also he said, "You will greatly exalt me," in order to show that "You will fill me with much gladness, and make my soul lofty, and, what is greatest of all, you will not allow this loftiness and this gladness of mine to become unsound, but powerful and strong, firm and unshaken." For this is the meaning of, "You will greatly exalt me in my soul with your power." 2. What he says is this: "With power you will greatly exalt me, with strength you will lift me up, and you will help me." Wherefore also another interpreter, indicating the same thing, said, "You established powers for my soul." And he said well, "my soul," which is especially characteristic of God, to restore souls even in afflictions, just as it also happened with the apostles. For being scourged they went away rejoicing, so was their soul greatly exalted. This is especially the work of the power of God; this especially shows his strength, not to allow the soul to be cast down in the midst of terrible things. Let all the kings of the earth confess to you, O Lord, for they have heard all the words of your mouth. See the gratitude. For he is not content to give thanks alone, but he also takes all the rulers into communion of thanksgiving, even those who wear the diadems. For although their authority and power is great, he says, yet all owe it to you to give thanks, even for what has happened to others. Ἐπὶ τούτοις σε προσκυνήσω, ἐπὶ τούτοις ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι, ὅτι ἄξιον ὄντα κολάσεως καὶ τιμωρίας, καὶ διηνεκῶς ἐν ἀλλοτρίᾳ διατρίβειν ὄντα δίκαιον, ταχέως ἐπανήγαγες. Ὅτι ἐμεγάλυνας ἐπὶ πᾶν τὸ ὄνομα τὸ ἅγιόν σου. Τοῦτο καὶ ἀλλαχοῦ τέθεικε, λέγων· Κατὰ τὸ ὕψος σου ἐπολυώρησας τοὺς υἱοὺς τῶν ἀνθρώπων· τουτέστιν, Ἐπῆρας, ὕψωσας. Οὕτω καὶ τὸ, Πολυωρήσεις με, εἶπεν, ἵνα δηλώσῃ, ὅτι Ἐμπλήσεις με εὐφροσύνης πολλῆς, καὶ μετέωρον ἐργάσῃ μου τὴν ψυχὴν, καὶ τὸ πάντων μεῖζον, οὐκ ἀφήσεις μου τὸν μετεωρισμὸν τοῦτον καὶ τὴν εὐφροσύνην ταύτην σαθρὰν γενέσθαι, ἀλλὰ δυνατὴν καὶ ἰσχυρὰν, βεβαίαν τε καὶ ἀκίνητον. Τοῦτο γάρ ἐστι τὸ, Πολυωρήσεις με ἐν ψυχῇ μου δυνάμει σου. βʹ. Ὃ δὲ λέγει, τοῦτό ἐστι· ∆υνάμει με πολυωρήσεις, ἰσχύϊ ὑψώσεις, καὶ βοηθήσεις μοι. ∆ιὸ καὶ ἕτερος ἑρμηνευτὴς τὸ αὐτὸ ἐμφαίνων, εἶπε, Συνέστης τῇ ψυχῇ μου δυνάμεις. Καλῶς δὲ εἶπε, Ψυχῇ μου, ὅπερ μάλιστα Θεοῦ ἴδιόν ἐστι, καὶ ἐν ταῖς θλίψεσιν ἀνακτᾶσθαι τὰς ψυχὰς, καθάπερ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν ἀποστόλων συνέβαινε. Μαστιζόμενοι γὰρ ἐπανῄεσαν χαίροντες, οὕτως ἐπολυωρεῖτο αὐτῶν ἡ ψυχή. Τοῦτο μάλιστα τῆς τοῦ Θεοῦ δυνάμεως ἔργον· τοῦτο μάλιστα δείκνυσι αὐτοῦ τὴν ἰσχὺν, τὸ ἐν μέσοις τοῖς δεινοῖς μὴ ἐᾷν καταφέρεσθαι τὴν ψυχήν. Ἐξομολογησάσθωσάν σοι, Κύριε, πάντες οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς, ὅτι ἤκουσαν πάντα τὰ ῥήματα τοῦ στόματός σου. Ὅρα εὐγνωμοσύνην. Οὐ γὰρ ἀρκεῖται τῷ μόνος εὐχαριστῆσαι, ἀλλὰ καὶ τοὺς κρατοῦντας ἅπαντας εἰς κοινωνίαν λαμβάνει τῆς εὐχαριστίας, καὶ αὐτοὺς τὰ διαδήματα ἔχοντας.
