The property of a hypostasis is to be seen by itself, and to be distinguished from those of the same species by number. Hypostasis is a concourse of characteristic properties, the individual and the particular; that is, distinguishing a certain man from the common. or a concourse of properties concerning each one. or that which through characteristic properties presents and delineates in a particular being the common and indescribable nature. A hypostatic union, then, is that which brings together and joins different substances, that is, natures, into one person and one and the same hypostasis. A hypostatic difference is a principle, according to which the otherness, according to the sum of the observed properties common to the substance, cutting by number one from another, makes the multitude of individuals.
