evil you become holy, then indeed it will happen to you both to obtain protection from God, and to be delivered from the hand of the devil; for he is the one who is properly the sinner. The way, therefore, of love for the Lord is to hate evil things; and the reward for this is to have him as a guard for one's life, and to become stronger than the enemies who rise up. Have you seen how much we have received from love for God? And we become holy by being dedicated to him, and we have God as a guard for the greatest possession, our soul; so as not to come under the hand and power of the enemy; For light has dawned for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice, you righteous, in the Lord, and give praise to the memory of his holiness. A PSALM OF DAVID. 97. Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things. And this psalm has the same meaning; for it prophesies each of the Savior's appearances, but it speaks more about the second. And it reasonably commands that a new song be offered to God; since it proclaims a change from former things, and foretells a new way of life. For the things done by the God of all for our salvation are supernatural and wondrous. For the Savior, having come into the world and by the grace of God having tasted death for everyone in order to take away the sin of the world, as will be shown through the following verses, has deemed us worthy of the great and secret mysteries. His right hand has brought him salvation, and his holy arm. The Savior has been shown through many proofs to be the Right Hand and Arm of God, according to the text concerning the right hand and the arm. Therefore, his right hand saves for God himself those who have been lifted to blessedness. For not everyone who is saved is saved for the Lord God; but only and everyone who is freed from evils and passions according to the right reason, and has received the knowledge of the truth with piety. For one who is saved from sicknesses and wounds is not in every case saved for God, especially when he does not understand that his health has been given to him by God. And the arm of God is holy, not being so by participation in holiness, but being the arm of the Holy Spirit. And perhaps the active power of God, being none other than the Word of God, is called the right hand, because it does all things skillfully, that is, holily, wisely, blamelessly, praiseworthily; and the arm because of its strength and exceeding might. The Lord has made known his salvation, he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his mercy to Jacob, and his truth to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Having long ago promised to Abraham that in his seed the nations would be blessed, he confirmed the truth of his words by the outcome of the events; and the mercy which he promised with an oath to provide, this he showed forth, having come into action. And these things are very much like the oracles of Isaiah, through whom the Father said to the Only-begotten: I have given you as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations, that 23.1233 you should be for salvation to the end of the earth. For since the God of all promised to the wonderful patriarchs and to David that he would raise up the Christ from their seed according to the flesh, and would provide salvation through him to all men, he called the promise made to the fathers a covenant. And he has called Israel his people; since Christ is from the Jews according to the flesh. I have given you therefore as a covenant of the people, that is, so as to fulfill the agreements made with the Jews; but as a light not any longer for the Jews, but for the nations; for the latter partook of salvation through faith, while the former loved the darkness of unbelief. This David also said here: He remembered his mercy to Jacob, that is to say
