of the womb, or, from the womb, the Hebrew has, Mariam. But I know in this, having heard from someone, that the Hebrew language here mentioned Mary; for "Mariam" signifies the name of Mary, so that through these things the Theotokos was mentioned by name. The Lord swore, and will not repent, You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. The Lord at your right hand has shattered kings in the day of his wrath. He will judge among the nations, he will fill them with corpses, he will shatter heads over the land. He will drink from the brook on the way; therefore he will lift up his head. It seems to me very consistent that the present text was joined to the preceding phrase. For even if you indeed endured birth from the womb, he says, and were born like dew from the Holy Spirit in your childhood, having taken on flesh, yet you will not make an end of your life in the same way as other men; but you will remain forever serving as a priest to God the Father. For this has been determined, and with a confirming oath this has been declared by your Father. ALLELUIA. 110. I will give thanks to you, Lord, with my whole heart, in the council of the upright and in the congregation. The inscription of the present text and of what follows it indicates that the present texts were not spoken with a psaltery, nor do they hold the place of an ode, nor of a prayer, nor of any of the other inscriptions, but are hymns of thanksgiving; for which reason they are also inscribed, Alleluia, which when changed into the Greek language signifies "praise of God." I will give thanks to you, Lord, with my whole heart, in the council of the upright and in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, sought out in all his desires. Thanksgiving and magnificence are his work, and his righteousness endures forever and ever. And very consistently, after the prophecy delivered concerning our Savior, a hymn of thanksgiving is joined through the present texts, spoken from the person of the Savior himself, giving thanks to his own Father for the salvation of all men. For "confession" at times, according to the custom of Scripture, signifies a confession of sins, but at other times it indicates thanksgiving. For example, then, in the Gospels our Savior himself says: I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for such was your good pleasure before you. All things have been delivered to me by the Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and to whomsoever the Son wishes to re 23.1345 veal. In the council of the saints and in the congregation. Great are the works of the Lord, sought out in all his desires. No longer of crooked or perverse men, but of good and upright souls I will give the hymn of thanksgiving to you, my own Father. And through these things he signifies the Church established throughout the whole world by his grace. And he called "council of the upright" the orders of the saints in his Church; and "congregation" signifies a second order after the council of the upright, the second gathering of the multitude in his Church. Thanksgiving and magnificence are his work, and his righteousness endures forever and ever. He has made a remembrance of his wonderful works; the Lord is merciful and compassionate, he has given food to those who fear him. He will be mindful of his covenant forever; he has declared the power of his works to his people, to give them the inheritance of the nations; the works of his hands are truth and judgment. All his commandments are faithful, established forever and ever, made in truth and uprightness. He has sent redemption to his people, he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy
