But having often discoursed about these things, we think it sufficient here to have the same refutations, which were spoken above against the root that produced their evil opinion, being able also here to refute these aforementioned Semi-Arians and those who split from them, those around Acacius and the others who set forth in Seleucia of Isauria another faith besides that of the truth, which, wishing to make public the very one set forth by them, we have likewise set it forth completely in full, after that written by Basil of Ancyra and George of Laodicea on behalf of them all. But in order that also this one, which secretly works terrible things, but having taken a muzzle upon its mouth as if † through a bridle for the time of hypocrisy, I might not seem, by putting it in second place, to have done this through forgetfulness, I will also say a few things against it and those who set it forth, against the aforementioned ones around Acacius and Euzoius and Eutychius and the others. And the 3.312 exposition set forth is manifest, having altered the confession of the truth. But lest some say that we have spoken against these men slanderously, let us show what, as time went on, was seen and discovered in the aforementioned synod of theirs. For from them was Euzoius of Caesarea, being a disciple of those men, who also succeeded Acacius after the appointment of Philoumenus, who was appointed by Cyril of Jerusalem, and after the appointment of Cyril the elder, who was appointed from among those with Eutychius, and after the appointment of Gelasius, who was again appointed by Cyril of Jerusalem; for he was from his sister; for the three having been appointed and having become inactive because of their strife with one another, the aforementioned Euzoius was again appointed. From them, therefore, was also Gemellinus, from them Philip of Scythopolis, from them Athanasius of Scythopolis; who not in secret, but with boldness, as if having done no good, not only teach the things of Arius, but also fight for their own heresy and persecute those who teach the truth, no longer wishing to refute with words, but also delivering over to enmities and wars and swords those who believe rightly. For they have wrought ruin not to one city and country, but to many. 38. * This Lucius, who wrought so many things in Alexandria against those who confess the Son of God in truth. And to whom of those having understanding of God is their faction * not clear each day? How they publicly proclaim that the Son of God is a creature, and that the Holy Spirit is a creature, and altogether alien from the substance of God. For concerning those around Eudoxius * since George shamefully met his end in Alexandria, and Eudoxius received the primacy and favor with the preeminent authority, who, being from the party of Hypatius and Eunomius, seemed through some flattery as though he were being refuted, but did not cease thinking the things of the Anomoeans while concealing them, whom they once exiled because of such an exposition of the pit, himself having brought to advancement Demophilus, Hypatius, Eunomius, the disciples of Aetius, who was once exiled to the regions of the Taurus, who was appointed deacon by George of Alexandria, from whom the root of the Anomoeans grew; being of one thorny matter 3.313 and of the same root, but differently as the schisms on each thorn *, so also is their malevolence, at one time in one way and at another time in another way the misinterpretations of the heterodox heresy progressing to the worse * has vomited forth ruin upon life, as we will also speak again later about these Anomoeans.
