an angel is sent to all the prophets. This woman, therefore, and the others, having been persuaded by the words of the false abbot that he was a prophet, preached everywhere that he was a prophet. 5 And this heresy took hold of the parts of Aithribos. And the word of this error went forth also to a man, a phylarch by the name of Boubachar. The woman therefore 153a, having died, left this man as successor and heir. From this, therefore, he became exceedingly prominent as being very wealthy. 6 This God-hated and godless man, having encountered Hebrews and (so-called Christians) Arians (and) 110.868 Nestorians, and having collected from all sides, from the Jews monarchy, from the Arians that the Word and the Spirit are created, and from the Nestorians the worship of a man, fashions for himself a religion, and under the pretense of the knowledge of God, having adopted the nation, he taught them to be circumcised, both men and women, and to worship one God only and to honor Christ as 593 the Word (of) God (indeed), but not the Son, and to suppose the Spirit to be spoken and poured out into the air, not hypostatic, nor consubstantial with the Father, and not to call the holy Virgin Mary Theotokos, but (to suppose her to be) the sister of Aaron and Moses, (he taught them) neither to be baptized, nor to keep the Sabbath, nor to follow the customs of the law or the gospels, but to abominate the cross and to confess that a shadow of the Savior was crucified. And he commanded them to partake of things altogether forbidden by the law except for the flesh of swine, but not to use wine at all. 7 Having fabricated some such tale, he says that he has become the key-holder of paradise, wherefore on the day of judgment, after Moses stands with the Israelites and as transgressors of the law they are handed over to the punishment of fire, and again Jesus stands before God, and the Christians, for having dared to attach such a name to Christ and for dogmatizing that he is God and Son of God and the incarnate and crucified Word, are handed over to the gehenna of fire; then he says that he himself is called by God most pious, is praised for being the cause of the piety of their whole nation, and for this reason has become the key-holder of paradise; and that after paradise has been opened by him, 70,000 (he says) will enter with him (altogether and indisputably), those who are able to rush toward this, and he says the rest will be judged, and the just will doubtfully enjoy the delight, but those found to be sinners, wearing tablets tied around their necks, they will enter into paradise and these will be called freedmen of God and of Mouchoumet, and he says there are 3 rivers in 594 paradise, one of honey, and another of milk, and the last of wine, so that (each may have the authority to partake from where he wishes and) to be filled, and that women are with them and adorn their hair and (in all ways) attend to (their) pleasure-loving bodies (he, the carnal-minded and passionate and slave of sin); but the Jews and Christians, having become wood for the fire, are left behind; he said that the Samaritans cast out their excrement and dung from paradise, 110.869 so that paradise might not stink, and that each, just as he had lived here, whether in wealth, or in poverty and disgrace, would pass his time there in the same manner. 8 This God-hated and thunderstruck man therefore (in addition to all these things) monstrously declared that God 153b is the cause of all good and evil, and those whom they might see being killed, having been caught in forbidden acts, such as robbers and sorcerers, "Thus," he says, "God wrote and predestined it to be, and thus He wished them to die." 9 One might indeed greatly (and therefore reasonably) admire so great and such a (strong and) lasting deceit of the God-fighter and vain-minded one, and especially the extreme madness (and) beastliness of those who until now have been enslaved by his error and as a strong (religion) and divine this
