Sermon 16 (On Slander)

Brother, if it should happen that you are reviled by someone in your absence, and another comes and reports to you that a certain brother has reviled you, you, as a prudent man, recognize whose plot this is. And do not be embittered against your brother. But say this to the one who came and informed you: even if my brother happens to have insulted me, nevertheless he did not do this of himself; the evil one contrived this, so that he might cast strife between us; but the Lord will destroy the evil one, and he will have mercy on my brother, and may he not abandon us.

Sermo 16 (De calumnia)
