FROM THE COMMENTARY OF SAINT CYRIL ON THE PROVERBS

The Lord created me. {Cyril.} The phrase "he created me," if you should take it concerning the Godhead, means "He established me;" as in, "Create in me a clean heart, O God." And, "that he might create the two in himself." For not essentially, that he might create those who have already come into being, but that he might establish them. He established me, therefore, as the beginning of his providential and creative works. For to David he also says: "I was established as king by him."
