Concerning Saint Epiphanius, bishop of Cyprus. αʹ. Saint Epiphanius the bishop related that, in the time of the blessed Athanasius the Great, crows flying around the temple of Serapis cried out unceasingly, 65.164 Cras, Cras. And the Greeks, coming before the blessed Athanasius, shouted: "Evil old man, tell us what the crows are crying." And he answered and said: "The crows are crying, Cras, Cras; and Cras in the language of the Ausonians is 'tomorrow,'" and he added, "Tomorrow you will see the glory of God." And next, the death of the emperor Julian was announced. And when this happened, they ran together and cried out against Serapis, saying: "If you did not want him, why did you receive his offerings?"
βʹ. The same one related that there was a certain charioteer in Alexandria, who was the son of a mother named Maria. During a horse race, this man fell; then getting up, he passed the one who had thrown him down, and won. And the crowd shouted: "The Son of Maria has fallen and has risen and has conquered." While this cry was still being uttered, the rumor concerning the temple of Serapis fell upon the crowd, that the great Theophilus, having gone up, had destroyed the idol of Serapis, and had taken possession of the temple.
γʹ. It was reported to the blessed Epiphanius, the bishop of Cyprus, by the abba of the monastery he had in Palestine, that "By your prayers we have not neglected our rule, but with diligence we perform the third, the sixth, and the ninth hours." But he, condemning them, declared to them, saying, that "It is clear that you are neglecting the other hours of the day, being idle from prayer." For the true monk must unceasingly have prayer and psalmody in his heart.
δʹ. Saint Epiphanius once sent to Abba Hilarion, inviting him and saying: "Come, let us see one another before we depart from the body;" and when he arrived, they rejoiced with one another. And while they were eating, a bird was brought. And the bishop, taking it, gave it to Abba Hilarion. And the old man says to him: "Forgive me, for since I took the habit, I have not eaten anything killed." And the bishop says to him: "And I, since I took the habit, have not let anyone go to sleep having something against me, nor have I myself gone to sleep having something against anyone." And the old man says to him: "Forgive me, for your way of life is greater than mine."
εʹ. The same one used to say that the image of Christ, Melchizedek, blessed the root of the Jews, Abraham; how much more does the truth itself, Christ, bless and sanctify all those who believe in him.
ς ʹ. The same one used to say: The Canaanite woman cries out and is heard; and the woman with the hemorrhage is silent and is blessed; but the Pharisee cries out and is condemned; the publican does not even open his mouth and is heard.
ζʹ. The same one used to say that David the prophet prayed at an untimely hour, he would rise at midnight, he would beseech before dawn, he would stand at dawn, he would pray in the morning, he would supplicate in the evening and at midday, and for this reason he said: "Seven times a day I have praised you." ηʹ. He said again that the possession of Christian books is necessary for those who have them. For it itself

Περὶ τοῦ ἁγίου Ἐπιφανίου ἐπισκόπου Κύπρου. αʹ. ∆ιηγήσατο ὁ ἅγιος Ἐπιφάνιος ὁ ἐπίσκοπος, ὅτι ἐπὶ τοῦ μακαρίου Ἀθανασίου τοῦ μεγάλου, κορῶναι περιϊπτάμεναι τὸ τοῦ Σεράπιδος ἱερὸν, ἔκραζον ἀπαύ 65.164 στως, Κρᾶς, Κρᾶς. Καὶ προστάντες ἐπὶ τὸν μακάριον Ἀθανάσιον οἱ Ἕλληνες, ἔκραξαν· Κακόγηρε, εἰπὲ ἡμῖν τί κράζουσιν αἱ κορῶναι. Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν· Αἱ κορῶναι κράζουσι, Κρᾶς, Κρᾶς· τὸ δὲ Κρᾶς τῇ Αὐσωνίων φωνῇ αὔριόν ἐστι καὶ προσετίθει, ὅτι Αὔριον ὄψεσθε τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Θεοῦ. Καὶ ἑξῆς ἠγγέλθη ὁ θάνατος τοῦ Ἰουλιανοῦ βασιλέως. Καὶ τούτου γενομένου, συνδραμόντες κατέκραζον τοῦ Σεράπιδος, λέγοντες· Ἐὰν οὐκ ἤθελες αὐτὸν, τί ἐλάμβανες τὰ αὐτοῦ;
βʹ.
