A rather concise selection of Eusebius of Pamphilus concerning measures and weights. 1 There are many variations of them according to different regions, but the following are set forth in one series with full information; and the subject has no small benefit because many are mentioned in the divinely-inspired scriptures.

2 Concerning liquid measures.

Alabaster, 1 litra. The wine amphora is a metretes of 48 xestai. Kabos of xestai. Xestes, 2 litrai. Kotyle, 1 litra. Tryblion, 4. Oxybaphon, 3. Kados, 24 xestai. Prochos, 12 xestai. Chous of xestai. Kyathos, 2. Mystron. Kochliarion, 4. Therefore the xestes is divided into cochliaria.

And the holy one, 9 xestai. Hydria, 10 xestai. Stamnos, 10 xestai. Kampsakkes, 4 xestai. The weight of 10 litrai of wine becomes 9 litrai of oil, and 15 litrai of honey.

Εὐσεβίου τοῦ Παμφίλου ἐκλογὴ συντομωτέρα περὶ μέτρων καὶ σταθμῶν. 1 Εἰσὶ διαφοραὶ μὲν αὐτῶν πολλαὶ κατὰ διαφόρους χώρας, ἀλλ' ἑνὶ εἱρμῷ ἐν πληροφορίᾳ κεῖται τὰ ὑποκείμενα· ἔχει δὲ καὶ ὠφέλειαν οὐκ ὀλίγην ἡ ὑπόθεσις διὰ τὸ πλεῖστα ἐμφέρεσθαι ἐν ταῖς θεοπνεύστοις γραφαῖς.
