Demonstratio evangelica 1.Pin.t List of Chapters. These things are in the first book of the evangelical demonstration concerning our savior. 1.Pin.1 1. What and how many things the treatise promises. 1.Pin.2 2. What is the manner of piety according to Christianity. 1.Pin.3 3. That the polity according to Moses was not suitable for all nations. 1.Pin.4 4. Why, when we accept the oracles of the Jews, we have rejected their way of life. 1.Pin.5 5. What sort of thing is the so-called new covenant of Christ. 1.Pin.6 6. What is the life proclaimed in it by Christ to all men. 1.Pin.7 7. How Christ, having first fulfilled the things of Moses, became the introducer of a new and fresh polity. 1.Pin.8 8. How the life according to Christianity is divided into two ways.1.Pin.99. Why the matter of having many children is not pursued among us in the same way as among the ancients. 1.Pin.10 10. For what reason it is not handed down to us, as to the ancients, to burn incense and offer earthly sacrifices to God. 1.t.1 Evangelical Demonstration Book One Behold now for you, divine treasure of bishops, Theodotus, holy man of God, with God and with our savior himself, the Word of God, after the first Preparation for the Gospel thesis which was worked out by us in a full fifteen books, this great work is accomplished by us. receive then, O dear head, the request and labor with us in prayers, as we attempt now at last to present the Evangelical Demonstration from the prophecies laid up from of old among the Hebrews. 1.Prooem.2 How indeed and in what manner? by using as witnesses those God-beloved men—you surely know those who are proclaimed among men, I mean Moses and those who shone forth after him, men worthy of God and the blessed prophets and hierophants—and choosing to demonstrate from them the things which came to light many ages later and were dealt with through the evangelical demonstration of the Savior, and the things concerning ourselves which are still being accomplished before our eyes even now, having comprehended by the divine spirit things not present as if they were present and things not yet in any way existing as if they clearly existed, and not only this but also having foretold in writing to those who would come after the things that would one day be, so that now others also from them are able to know and recognize the future and to expect daily the fulfillment of the oracles. 1.Prooem.3 And what are these? They would be countless and various. All sorts and concerning all things, both common and particular, concerning each man and concerning things in general, and specifically concerning the affairs of the Hebrews and again concerning the nations outside; for instance, the destruction of cities, changes of seasons and alterations of affairs, the comings of future good things, and the inflictions of their opposites, enslavements of nations, sieges of cities, the transfers and establishments of whole kingdoms, and countless other things they proclaimed concerning what would happen long ages later. 1.Prooem.4 But the present occasion does not demand that we present the proof of these things, but having deferred most of them for later, the truth of what will be set forth will quietly also confirm the proof of what has been passed over in silence. 1.1.1 It is now time to say what prophetic predictions, therefore, might properly contribute at present to our evangelical demonstration. 1.1.2 Christ by name and Word of God, himself God and Lord and a certain “of great counsel
