Chronologica (fort. auctore anonymo excerptorum chronologicorum) ANONYMI CHRONOLOGICA.

The book of the generation of men in the day that God made Adam according to his image and likeness. Thus then was the first man made by God, whose name was Adam, and his wife Eve; male and female God made them. And Adam begot from his wife three sons, Cain, Abel, and Seth, and two daughters, Azura and Asoam. And Adam, according to God's command, gave names to all the four-footed animals and birds and amphibians and reptiles and fish and to his own children; but his own name and that of his wife an angel of the Lord told them. And Cain took as his wife his first sister Azura, and Seth the second, Asoam; and Abel was both a virgin and righteous and a shepherd of sheep, from which bringing sacrifices to God and being accepted, he is killed, being envied by his brother Cain.

4 But Cain, being a farmer, and living worse after his condemnation, was the first to invent measures and weights and boundaries of the earth; then having founded a city in the land of Naid opposite Eden, he named it after his son Enos, and having compelled his kinsmen to come together into one place, he occupied himself with wars. And after these things, he died when his house fell on him, as some say, but others that Lamech killed him. But Cain begot Enos, and Enos begot Gaidad, and Gaidad begot Maleleel, and Maleleel begot Mathusala, and Mathusala begot Lamech, who, taking two wives, Eldan and Selan, begot Iobel and Iubal and Thobel. And Iobel demonstrated animal husbandry, and Iubal demonstrated the psaltery and lyre, and Thobel the forging of bronze and iron. And one chose to dwell in tents and to raise cattle and to farm, and another devised lyre-playing and tragedies in addition to demonic practices, and the other contrived to supply swords and weapons for wars. Therefore the lineage of Cain, having been deemed worthy of mention up to this point, is separated from the number of the fathers, so that it is neither counted among the first, nor does it precede those that follow. Therefore, "whoever kills Cain shall suffer sevenfold vengeance" has such a solution: each one will die for his own sin, but you 5 who began the murder and became the instructor of the sin to others, will suffer sevenfold vengeance, that is, you will be punished seven times over and very much. For it is customary for scripture to use this number sevenfold, and it is indicative of an indefinite multitude, as in "render to our neighbors sevenfold" and "the barren has borne seven" and "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven." For among the things dared by Cain, the first sin is envy, 2nd deceit, 3rd murder, 4th that it was of a brother, 5th that it was the first murder, 6th that he caused grief to his parents, 7th that he lied to God; these are the 7 sins of Cain. And the punishments brought against him for his chastisement by divine justice are these. 1st, cursed is the ground from you, 2nd, you will work the ground, 3rd, it will not yield to you its strength, 4th groaning and trembling, with the 5th together, you shall be upon the earth, 6th which Cain himself revealed, saying, If you cast me out now from you, and from your face I shall be hidden, 7th that the punishment not even be hidden, but be made plain to all by a clear sign; for, it says, the Lord God set a mark on Cain, so that anyone who found him should not kill him.

And Adam was 230 years old when he begot Seth. This Seth was the first to discover Hebrew letters and wisdom and the signs 6 of the heaven and the turnings of the years and the months and the weeks, and he gave names to the stars and
