Prayer of Saint Macarius.

O God, be merciful to me a sinner, for I have done nothing good before You. Rescue me from the Evil One, and count me worthy to open my 34.448 unworthy mouth without condemnation, and to hymn Your all-holy name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Forgive me, Lord, every unseemly impulse of my heart, You who test hearts and minds. For you know, Master of all, that they are involuntary for me. Forgive me for approaching You unworthily, because I have longed for You and do long for You. Forgive me the sinner, the wicked, the liar, the impatient, the faint-hearted, the unstable, the slothful, the neglecter of your holy commandments, who has committed every kind and all manner of sin and lawlessness, fornication, adultery, effeminacy on earth, in the sea, and in every place of Your dominion. Lord, before Your unerring eyes I have not ceased from working all evil and shameful things. And still the enemy does not cease to entangle me with gluttony and pleasures and wicked desires, and with deceits and vainglory and blasphemies. But You, as the only one who is good and merciful, help me and save me as the prodigal, as the publican, as the harlot, as the thief. Yes, Master, Lover of mankind, exceedingly good, do not abhor me, your sinful and unprofitable servant, through the intercessions of our all-pure Lady Theotokos, and of all Your saints. A prayer to the holy angel appointed by God to shelter and guard us.

Holy angel, set over my wretched soul and my miserable life, do not abandon me the sinner, nor depart from me because of my impurity; do not give place to the wicked demon to overcome me by the oppression of this mortal body. Take hold of my wretched and limp hand, and guide me on the path of salvation. Yes, holy angel of God, set over my wretched soul and body, forgive me all things wherein I have grieved you all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in anything this day. Shelter me in this present night and guard me from all malice and plotting of the adversary, that I may not anger God in any sin. And intercede for me with the Lord, that He may establish me in His fear and show me to be a worthy servant of His goodness. Amen.

Εὐχὴ τοῦ ἁγίου Μακαρίου.

Ὦ Θεὸς, ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ, ὅτι οὐδὲν ἐποίησα ἀγαθὸν ἐνώπιόν σου. Ἀναρῦσαί με ἀπὸ τοῦ Πονηροῦ, καὶ ἀξίωσόν με ἀκατακρίτως ἀνοίγειν τὸ 34.448 στόμα μου τὸ ἀνάξιον, καὶ ἀνυμνεῖν τὸ πανάγιον ὄνομά σου τοῦ Πατρὸς καὶ τοῦ Υἱοῦ καὶ τοῦ ἁγίου Πνεύματος. Συγχώρησόν μοι, Κύριε, πᾶν ἄτοπον ὅρμημα τῆς καρδίας μου, ὁ ἐτάζων καρδίας καὶ νεφρούς. Σὺ γὰρ γινώσκεις, ∆έσποτα τῶν ἁπάντων, ὅτι ἀκούσιά μού εἰσι. Συγχώρησόν μοι ἀναξίως προσερχομένῳ σοι, διότι σὲ ἐπόθησα καὶ ποθῶ. Συγχώρησόν μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ, τῷ πονηρῷ, τῷ ψεύστῃ, τῷ ἀνυπομονήτῳ, τῷ ὀλιγοψύχῳ, τῷ ἀσυστάτῳ, τῷ ῥᾳθύμῳ, τῷ ἀμελεῖ τῶν ἁγίων σου ἐντολῶν, τῷ πᾶσαν καὶ παντοίαν ἁμαρτίαν καὶ ἀνομίαν τελέσαντι, πορνείας, μοιχείας, μαλακίας ἐν γῇ, ἐν θαλάσσῃ καὶ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ τῆς δεσποτείας σου. Κύριε, ἐνώπιον τῶν ἀλαθήτων σου ὀφθαλμῶν οὐκ ἐπαυσάμην πάντα ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ πονηρὰ καὶ αἰσχρά. Καὶ ἀκμὴν ὁ ἐχθρὸς γαστριμαργίαις καὶ ἡδοναῖς καὶ πονηραῖς ἐπιθυμίαις, δόλοις τε καὶ κενοδοξίαις καὶ βλασφημίαις ἐμπλέκειν με οὐ παύεται. Ἀλλὰ σὺ, ὡς μόνος ὢν ἀγαθὸς καὶ ἐλεήμων, βοήθησόν μοι καὶ σῶσόν με ὡς τὸν ἄσωτον, ὡς τὸν τελώνην, ὡς τὴν πόρνην, ὡς τὸν λῃστήν. Ναὶ, ∆έσποτα, φιλάνθρωπε, ὑπεράγαθε, μὴ βδελύξῃ με τὸν ἁμαρτωλὸν καὶ ἀχρεῖον οἰκέτην σου, πρεσβείαις τῆς παναχράντου ∆εσποίνης ἡμῶν Θεοτόκου, καὶ πάντων σου τῶν ἁγίων. Εὐχὴ εἰς τὸν ἅγιον ἄγγελον τὸν ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ταχθέντα σκεπεῖν καὶ διαφυλάττειν ἡμᾶς.

Ἅγιε ἄγγελε, ὁ ἐφεστὼς τῆς ἀθλίας μου ψυχῆς καὶ ταλαιπώρου μου ζωῆς, μὴ ἐγκαταλίπῃς με τὸν ἁμαρτωλὸν, μηδ' ἀποστῇς ἀπ' ἐμοῦ διὰ τὴν ἀκαθαρσίαν μου, μὴ δῷς χώραν τῷ πονηρῷ δαίμονι, κατακυριεῦσαί μου τῇ καταδυναστείᾳ τοῦ θνητοῦ τούτου σώματος. Κράτησον τῆς ἀθλίας καὶ παρειμένης χειρός μου, καὶ ὁδήγησόν με εἰς ὁδὸν σωτηρίας. Ναὶ, ἅγιε ἄγγελε τοῦ Θεοῦ, ὁ ἐφεστὼς τῆς ἀθλίας μου ψυχῆς καὶ τοῦ σώματος, πάντα μοι συγχώρησον, ὅσα σοι ἔθλιψα πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ζωῆς μου, καὶ εἴ τι ἥμαρτον τὴν σήμερον ἡμέραν. Σκέπασόν με ἐν τῇ παρούσῃ νυκτὶ καὶ διαφύλαξόν με ἀπὸ πάσης ἐπηρείας καὶ ἐπιβουλῆς τοῦ ἀντικειμένου, ἵνα μὴ ἔν τινι ἁμαρτήματι παροργίσω τὸν Θεόν. Καὶ πρέσβευε ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ πρὸς τὸν Κύριον τοῦ ἐπιστηρίξαι με ἐν τῷ φόβῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἄξιον ἀναδεῖξαί με δοῦλον τῆς αὐτοῦ ἀγαθότητος. Ἀμήν.
