To the Romans. 1.1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle, set apart 1.2 for the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his pro- 1.3 phets in the holy scriptures concerning his Son who was born 1.4 of the seed of David according to the flesh, who was declared the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead, Jesus 1.5 Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship for obedience of faith among all the nations for the sake of 1.6 his name, among whom you also are the called of Jesus 1.7 Christ, to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1.8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole 1.9 world. For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing 1.10 I make mention of you always in my prayers, asking if somehow now at last I may succeed by the will of God 1.11 to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart some 1.12 spiritual gift to you to strengthen you, that is, to be mutually encouraged among you through the faith in one another 1.13 both yours and mine. But I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that many times I intended to come to you, and was hindered until now, so that I might have some fruit among you also, as also among the 1.14 other nations. Both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish 1.15 I am a debtor; so, for my part, I am eager also to you who are 1.16 in Rome to preach the gospel. For I am not ashamed of the gospel; for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew 1.17 first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, as it is written: But the righteous one will live by faith. 1.18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in unrighteousness 1.19 suppress the truth, because that which is known of God is evident in them; 1.20 for God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, from the creation of the world, being understood from his works, are clearly seen, both his eternal power and divinity, so that they are without excuse, 1.21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and was darkened 1.22 their foolish heart. Claiming to be wise, they became foolish, 1.23 and they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for a likeness 1.23 of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of four-footed animals and 1.24 of crawling things. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, for the dishonoring of their bodies 1.25 among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and revered and served the creation rather than the 1.26 Creator, who is blessed forever.
