Scholia in Apocalypsem (scholia 1, 3-39) And since, as I was devoted to the Word and as a report was spreading concerning our way of life, there came to me sometimes heretics, and sometimes those from the Greek disciplines and especially those in philosophy, it seemed good to examine both the doctrines of the heretics and the things which philosophers profess to say concerning truth. And this we have done, imitating both Pantaenus before us, who benefited many and who had no small preparation in those things, and Heraclas, who now sits in the presbytery of the Alexandrians. I found him with the teacher of philosophical studies, having already persevered with him for five years before I began to hear those lectures; for which reason he also, though previously wearing common clothing, laid it aside and, having taken up a philosopher's habit, maintains it to this day, and according to his ability does not cease to study the books of the Greeks.
