And this was nothing other than to boast against the glory of God, and to rise up against the one who presided over those from Israel, as if he had been able in no way to help his own people. And from where it is possible to see this, he himself said again in what follows: To him was given the honor and the kingdom. For he heard the Father saying: Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.

Τοῦτο δ' ἦν ἕτερον οὐδὲν πλὴν ὅτι μεγαλαυχεῖν κατὰ τῆς δόξης τοῦ Θεοῦ,

κατεπαίρεσθαί τε τοῦ προεστηκότος τῶν ἐξ Ἰσραὴλ, ὡς κατὰ μηδένα τρόπον ὀνῆσαι δεδυνημένον τὸν ἴδιον λαόν. Βίβλοι ἠνεῴχθησαν. Ὅτε γὰρ ἐν εἴδει γέγονε τῷ καθ' ἡμᾶς ὁ Μονογενὴς, τότε καὶ βίβλους ἀνέῳξεν ὁ Πατήρ· καὶ ἀνῆκε μὲν τοῦ κρίνεσθαι τοὺς ἐνόχους ἁμαρτίαις, ἐφῆκε δὲ τοῖς ἀνδριζομένοις τὸ ἐγγράφεσθαί τε καὶ ἐναριθμεῖσθαι λοιπὸν τοῖς ἄνω χοροῖς καὶ ἐν μνήμῃ κεῖσθαι. Καὶ τί ἐστιν, Ἕως τοῦ Παλαιοῦ τῶν ἡμερῶν ἔφθασεν; Ἆρα τοπικῶς; Εἶτα πῶς τοῦτο οὐκ ἀμαθές; ὅτι μὴ ἐν τόπῳ τὸ Θεῖον· πληροῖ γὰρ τὰ πάντα. Τί οὖν ἐστι τὸ, Ἕως τοῦ Παλαιοῦ τῶν ἡμερῶν ἔφθασεν; Εἰς τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Πατρὸς δηλονότι ἔφθασεν ὁ Υἱός. Καὶ πόθεν τοῦτο ἔστιν ἰδεῖν, ἔφη πάλιν αὐτὸς ἐφεξῆς· Αὐτῷ ἐδόθη ἡ τιμὴ καὶ βασιλεία. Ἤκουσε γὰρ τοῦ Πατρὸς λέγοντος· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.
