THE ORATIONS AGAINST THE ARIANS

54 But the strange middle-dancers of the stage of Arius declare that Christ committed sin; 55 But that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, they neither bear in memory nor utter with the organs of their tongue. But like clever slanderers and accusers, having mutilated the passage, they make their case for the accusation.

56 But it is necessary for lawful combatants who love the truth to include everything without omission, and not for the sake of deception to be silent about one part, and to bring forward another part which they have detached.

57 For if he is created, then he is not begotten; and if he is begotten, he is not created; since it is not possible for both kinds to be applied to the same nature.

58 Everything that has a beginning also admits of an end, everything that admits of an end is susceptible to corruption.

ΟΙ ΛΟΓΟΙ ΚΑΤΑ ΑΡΕΙΑΝΩΝ

54 Ἀλλ' οἱ παράδοξοι τῆς Ἀρείου θυμέλης μεσόχοροι τὸ μὲν ἁμαρτίαν πεποιηκέναι τὸν Χριστὸν φράζουσι· 55 Τὸ δὲ ὅτι Θεὸς ἦν ἐν Χριστῷ κόσμον καταλλάσσων ἑαυτῷ, οὔτε ἐν μνήμῃ φέρουσιν οὔτε τοῖς τῆς γλώττης ὀργάνοις ἐκφωνοῦσιν. Ἀλλὰ ὥσπερ δεινοὶ συκοφάνται καὶ κατήγοροι ἀκρωτηριάσαντες τὸ χωρίον, τὸν ἀγῶνα τῆς κατηγορίας ποιοῦνται.

56 ∆εῖ δὲ φιλαλήθως τοὺς ἐννόμους ἀγωνιστὰς πάντα συμπεριλαβόντας ἀπαραλείπτως, ἀλλὰ μὴ πρὸς ἀπάτην μέρος μὲν ἀποσιωπᾶν, μέρος δὲ ἀποσπῶντας προφέρειν. 57 Εἰ γὰρ κτιστὸς οὐκ ἄρα γεννητός· εἰ δὲ γεννητὸς, οὐ κτιστός· ἐπεὶ μηδὲ οἷόν τε περὶ τὴν αὐτὴν φύσιν ἑκάτερον στρέφεσθαι τὸ γένος.

58 Πᾶν τὸ ἀρχὴν ἔχον καὶ τέλος ἐπιδέχεται, πᾶν τὸ τέλος ἐπιδεχόμενον φθορᾶς ἐστιν δεκτικόν.
