Mary, the ineffable jewel of the economy; to whom Gabriel: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Gabriel brought to mind, and the Father from heaven sent the Holy Spirit as a pledge, He set the Virgin in motion toward the only-begotten Son, a heavenly bride, whom the Father loved, the Son inhabited, the Holy Spirit desired. For she is both bride and bridal chamber, and from her the bridegroom Christ comes forth, the virginal garment, according to the melody of the prophet David: He has set his tabernacle in the sun, and he comes forth like a bridegroom from his chamber. O bridegroom's desire of purity! Gabriel sets in motion his own handmaid, bride, and mother; he became the agent for the Virgin, joining the incense of heaven and earth; whom prophets clearly depicted, proclaiming the order of the marriage, how the celestial Virgin is found to be both bride and mother, she who received the Holy Spirit as prenuptial gifts, and as a dowry heaven and paradise together.
Therefore the Virgin sought to see him whom she longed for, and said: Where is the bridegroom whose beauty I desire? where is the beauty brighter than the sun? where is the ineffable glory of all comeliness? where is the unquenchable light, which desiring I seek? where is the sun who seeks a ray? where is the cithara of the cherubim? where is the sleepless eye of the seraphim, Christ? where is the adoration of the angels, which Gabriel announced? where is the only-begotten Son of the only Father, whom the Virgin desiring, and loving and at the same time seeking, embraces? to whom Gabriel: Hail, full of grace. The boundless grace of the holy Virgin. Hail, full of grace, adorned with many virtues, O lamp-bearing Virgin, the unquenchable light brighter than the sun. Hail, full of grace, the bait of the spiritual hook; for in you the divinity is the hook. Hail, full of grace, the spiritual ark of glory; Hail, full of grace, the golden jar, holding the heavenly manna. Hail, full of grace, who filled the thirsty with the sweetness of the ever-flowing spring. Hail, full of grace, spiritual sea, holding the heavenly pearl, Christ; Hail, full of grace, the brilliant heaven, holding God who is uncontainable in 43.492 heavens. Hail, full of grace, who makes the cherubic throne of the divinity shine forth. Hail, full of grace, encompassing the circle of heaven, and God uncontainable, but in you contained, and unconfined. Hail, full of grace, pillar-like cloud, holding God, who guided the people in the desert. What shall I say? And what shall I speak? How shall I bless the glory from the very root? because apart from God alone she is higher than all. For she is more beautiful than the cherubim and seraphim, and of all the angelic host; for whom the tongue of heaven and earth will not suffice, nor perhaps even that of angels. For they themselves offered hymn and praise and honor and glory; but even so they were not able to speak according to her worth. And the angels rejoiced, as they alone have God, to whom the all-holy Virgin is superior, having borne on earth the God who is in heaven, so that she might thus draw the hosts of angels to earth with men.
For she is the mediatrix of heaven and earth, having made unity. O blessed Virgin, pure dove, the heavenly bride Mary, heaven and temple and throne of the divinity; who holds the sun Christ, shining forth in heaven and on earth; the luminous cloud, having illuminated the world with the all-luminous lightning from heaven, Christ; the heavenly cloud, who brought down to the world the thunder of the Holy Spirit hidden within herself, who poured down the rain of the Holy Spirit on all the earth for the fruitfulness of faith. Hail, full of grace, the gate of the heavens, about which the prophet cried out, saying: Behold the gate is closed, and no one shall enter through it, nor shall go out, except the Lord God alone; and the gate shall be closed for the prince, because he himself shall be called prince, and to him
