by the holy Virgin, her fault [ἄλ. fall] has been saved. And 10.1149 not before did the holy one endure to receive the gift, until she should learn who was the sender, and what was the gift, and who was the bearer.

These things the holy one was pondering within herself, saying, it says, to the angel: From where have you brought forth for us such a blessing? From what treasures has the pearl of the word been sent to us? From where does the gift have its substance [ἄλ. promise] for us. You have come from heaven, but you walk upon the earth; you show the form of a man, and you flash like a torch of light. These things the holy one was considering in herself, and with such words the archangel resolved her discernment, saying to her: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also that holy thing which will be born of you shall be called the Son of God. And fear not, Mary; for I have not come to strike you with fear, but to drive away the cause of fear. Fear not, Mary; for you have found favor with God. Do not scrutinize grace according to nature. For grace does not endure to submit to the laws [ἄλ. law] of nature.

You have known, O Mary, the things hidden from the patriarchs and prophets. You have learned, O Virgin, what until now was hidden even from the angels. You have heard, O all-holy one, things of which the choir of the God-bearers has not yet been deemed worthy. Moses and David, and Isaiah, and Daniel, and all the prophets proclaimed beforehand concerning him; but how, they did not know. But you alone, O all-holy Virgin, now receive the mysteries unknown to all these, and you learn [ἄλ. receive and learn] the wherefore. For where the Holy Spirit is, all things are readily prepared. Where divine grace is, all things are possible with God. The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore also that holy thing which will be born of you shall be called the Son of God. And if the Son of God, also God, of the same form as the Father, and co-eternal, in whom the Father possesses all manifestation; the express image in the person, and through the radiance the glory shines forth. And just as from the ever-flowing spring the rivers come forth; so also from this ever-flowing and ever-living spring, comes forth the light of the world, the ever-flowing and true, Christ our God. For concerning this the prophets have cried out: The streams of the river make glad [γρ. the stream makes glad] the city of God; not one city, but all; for as one city, it makes glad the whole world. Fittingly therefore the angel [ἄλ. archangel] to the holy Mary, the Virgin first of all, proclaimed: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you; since with her the whole treasure of grace was stored. For out of all generations she alone became a virgin holy in body and in spirit; and she alone bears him who bears all things by his word. And not only is it possible to marvel at the beauty in body of the holy one, but also the virtuous manner of her soul. Therefore also: Hail, full of grace, the angel [ἄλ. archangel] first addressed to her; The Lord is with you, and not an earthly bridegroom; 10.1152 but the Lord of sanctification himself, the father of purity [ἄλ. holiness], the creator of incorruption, and the giver of freedom, the guardian of salvation, and the steward and bestower of true peace, he who from the Virgin earth formed man, and from his rib took [ἄλ. brought forth] Eve; this Lord is with you, and again from you. Come [ἄλ. Come (pl.)] therefore, beloved, and let us, following the angelic praise, gratefully [γρ. gratefully (adv.)] pay the debt according to our ability, saying: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you; For it is truly yours to rejoice; since with you the divine grace, as it knows how, has tabernacled; with the handmaiden, the King of glory; with the beautiful one, he who is beautiful in comeliness beyond the sons of men; with the undefiled one, he who sanctifies all things. With you is God, and perfect man, in whom dwells all the fullness of the Godhead. Hail, full of grace, the spring of the light, which enlightens
