to him and all the powers of the heavens around the fifth watch of the night singing and saying the "320Holy, holy, holy, Lord Sabaoth20"3.

And he who had previously washed the feet of his disciples and wiped them with the towel with which he was girded, he himself now also washed his own face with water in his hands, O, the wonder!, and having washed it, he wiped his immaculate and inscrutable face with the clean linen cloth; and immediately an impression of his God-human form was revealed, the all-holy and most true image, as is shown to all today. and just as before, by his own love for mankind and condescension, he showed his incarnation, so also now he shows it to the honorable and most devout Aquilina. 6 Wherefore, these things having been so arranged, the woman gave thanks to the Lord and did not become weary in thanksgiving. Having placed such a holy image in one chest of her house, fearing her husband, she honored it exceedingly. Foreknowing, therefore, her own departure, she made the best provision for this holy icon, not made by hands and unpainted, and having written down the events accompanying it and having deposited them with it, she secured it. 7

And after her death, it was revealed to me, the unworthy Gregory, in Camuliana, in her dwelling place, through the Holy Spirit, and having gone to the place shown to me and having dug out the wall, I found a case in which was laid the holy image of the Father's radiance, and the lamp suspended by the blessed woman for many and unremembered years was burning, O, the wonder!, and a small censer giving forth the fragrance of incense. 8 This first and greatest miracle I, the least of bishops, have seen with my own eyes, and thus I made it manifest to all and chose for it to be placed in the metropolis of Caesarea. Through which also many healings took place, as many as also at the time of his incarnation, of the blind and lame and demon-possessed and paralytics being healed instantly, so that the fullness of the grace and gift of the Holy Spirit might be made manifest, that he, the incarnate Word of the Father without beginning, both lives and is strengthened and abides and reigns unto the ages of ages. 9

These things happened in Camuliana during the reign of 20Diocletian20, when the immaculate and not-made-by-hand icon was made and hidden; and during the time of Theodosius the Great, it was revealed and worked wonders to the glory of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, of the one Godhead and Kingdom, now and unto the endless ages.
