and of our God, and then bathes, let him be accursed. 25 If anyone fornicates in dreams and in the morning receives communion, let him be anathema. 26 If anyone says to his brother, 'fool,' let him be accursed, as the Lord has said. 27 If anyone talks in the church of God, let him be anathema. 28 If anyone offers poisons and astrologies by means of theft of goods, or asks anything else whatsoever, let him be anathema. 29 If anyone eats the blood of an animal, let him be accursed. 30 If any presbyter or cleric or deacon demands interest from debtors, anathema.

31 If any presbyter or cleric or deacon enters a tavern, not out of

necessity and not while on a journey, let him be anathema. 32 If anyone listens to the secrets of the brethren, let him be anathema. 33 If any Christian holds a wedding during the holy and great forty days, let him be anathema. 34 If any woman is found to be with two brothers, let her be excommunicated for 7 years, with 100 prostrations each day, eating dry food. 35 If any presbyter or monk vomits from too much wine, let him be penanced for 40 days, with 50 prostrations. 37 If anyone, while joking, reveals his nakedness openly, let him be anathema. 38 If a monk of the great schema fornicates, let him receive the penance of an adulterer; but the monk of the small schema, if he falls with a free person, receives the penance of a fornicator. 39 The monk who has fallen into self-abuse has a penance of 40 days, with 50 prostrations, eating dry food. 40 The monk who has a nocturnal emission, whether from meditation or from a vision, ought not to serve for up to 7 days, but making 40 prostrations each day, eating dry food.

41 The monk who falls with a nun, let them both be deposed, and

let them go to the places of beginners; let their penance be for 12 years, excommunicated, making 300 prostrations each day, for he who destroys the temple of God, him will God destroy. 42 The monk who falls with a married couple, let him be deposed; his penance for 7 years, excommunicated, with 300 prostrations, eating dry food. 43 If any monk is insolent, he is considered as a fornicator; and if he strikes someone unjustly, let him be separated for 40 days, eating dry food. 44 If any monk travels with a woman for 7 fathoms, God considers him a fornicator. 45 If any monk while walking on the road places his staff upon his shoulders, he is outside the monastic state, and God considers him a robber. 46 If any monk eats with his head uncovered, or sleeps so, he is an enemy of God. 47 If any monk lifts his garment above his knees, God considers him a fornicator. 48 If someone is fighting with another, and one of them dies unforgiven by the other, the survivor ought to be penanced by eating dry food for 12 years, and praying to God for the forgiveness of the deceased. 49 If anyone seizes another's property, with others swearing falsely, let him be penanced for 12 years, and let the property be returned threefold. 50 If anyone swears an oath to a virgin, the canon does not hold that they should be separated, so as not to trample on the life-giving cross.

51 If anyone is defiled during the holy forty days, he fasts from Pascha until

Pentecost; but it is necessary to break the fast on the great Sunday. 52 If anyone turns a brother from the way of truth through his craftiness, let him be penanced for 40 days, with 50 prostrations, eating dry food. 53 If anyone [is found] speaking idly and laughing, let him be penanced for 2 days, with 50 prostrations, eating dry food. 54 He who is vainglorious against any Christian becomes an enemy of God. 55 The canonarch, if he chants the verses carelessly, and through his laziness cuts out the service fitting to God, let him eat dry food for 5 days, with 50 prostrations. 56 The same, if he carelessly lies down after the hour of the simantron, and does not take care of his books, and the commemorations of the saints not

31 Εἴ τις πρεσβύτερος ἢ κληρικὸς ἢ διάκονος ἐμβῇ εἰς τὸ καπηλεῖον, οὐ κατὰ

ἀνάγκην καὶ οὐ κατὰ ξενιτείαν, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω. 32 Εἴ τις ἀκροᾶται μυστήρια ἀδελφῶν, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω. 33 Εἴ τις χριστιανὸς ποιήσει γάμους τῇ ἁγίᾳ καὶ μεγάλῃ τεσσαρακοστῇ, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω. 34 Εἴ τις γυνὴ εὑρέθη εἰς δύο ἀδελφοὺς, ἔστω ἀκοινώνητος ἔτη ζʹ, μετανοίας καθ' ἑκάστην ρʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 35 Εἴ τις πρεσβύτερος ἢ μοναχὸς ἐμμέσει ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴνου πολλοῦ, ἐπιτιμάσθω ἡμέρας μʹ, μετανοίας νʹ. 37 Εἴ τις τὴν ἀσχημοσύνην αὐτοῦ φανερὰν ὑποδεικνύει χαριεντιζόμενος, ἀνάθεμα ἔστω. 38 Ἐὰν πορνεύσῃ μοναχὸς μεγαλόσχημος, μοιχοῦ ἐπιτίμιον δεχέτω· ὁ δὲ μικρόσχημος μοναχὸς, ἐὰν εἰς ἐλεύθερον πρόσωπον πέσῃ, ἐπιτίμιον πόρνου δέχεται. 39 Ὁ μοναχὸς ὁ πεσὼν εἰς μαλακίαν, ἔχει ἐπιτίμιον ἡμέρας μʹ, μετανοίας νʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 40 Ὁ πεσὼν μοναχὸς εἰς ῥεῦσιν καθ' ὕπνου αὐτοῦ ἢ ἐκ μελέτης ἢ ἀπὸ θεωρίας, ὀφείλει μὴ λει τουργεῖν ἕως ἡμερῶν ζʹ, ποιῶν δὲ καθ' ἑκάστην μετανοίας μʹ, ξηροφαγῶν.

41 Ὁ πεσὼν μοναχὸς εἰς μονάστριαν, καθαιρείσθωσαν καὶ οἱ δύο, καὶ

ἀρχαρίων τόπων ἐρχέσθωσαν· τὸ ἐπιτίμιον αὐτῶν ἔστω χρόνους ιβʹ, ἀκοινώνητοι, ποιεῖν καθεκάστην μετανοίας τʹ, ὅτι ὁ φθείρας τὸν ναὸν τοῦ Θεοῦ, φθειρεῖ τοῦτον ὁ Θεός. 42 Ὁ πεσὼν μοναχὸς εἰς ἀνδρόγυνον, καθαιρείσθω· τὸ ἐπιτίμιον αὐτοῦ χρόνους ζʹ, ἀκοινώνητος, μετανοίας τʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 43 Εἴ τις μοναχὸς ὑβρίζεται, ὡς πόρνος λογίζεται· εἰ δὲ τύψει τινὰ ἀδίκως, ἔστω ἀφορισμένος ἡμέρας μʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 44 Εἴ τις μοναχὸς συνοδεύσει γυναῖκα ὀργίας ζʹ, πόρνον λογίζεται αὐτὸν ὁ Θεός. 45 Εἴ τις μοναχὸς περιπατῶν ἐν ὁδῷ θέσει τὴν ῥάβδον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῶν ὤμων αὐτοῦ, ἔξω τῆς μοναδικῆς ἐστὶ καταστάσεως, καὶ λῃστὴν λογίζεται αὐτὸν ὁ Θεός. 46 Εἴ τις μοναχὸς φαγεῖ ἀσκέπαστος, εἴτε κοιμηθῇ, ἐχθρός ἐστι τοῦ Θεοῦ. 47 Εἴ τις μοναχὸς σηκώσει τὸ ῥάκος αὐτοῦ ἐπάνω τῶν γονάτων αὐτοῦ, πόρνον λογίζεται αὐτὸν ὁ Θεός. 48 Ἐάν τις μαχόμενος μεθ' ἑτέρου, καὶ ἀποθάνοι εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν ἀσυγχώρητος παρὰ τοῦ ἑτέρου, ὀφείλει ὁ ζῶν ἐπιτιμᾶσθαι ξηροφαγῶν ἔτη ιβʹ, καὶ δεόμενος τοῦ Θεοῦ ὑπὲρ συγχωρήσεως τοῦ τεθνηκότος. 49 Ἐάν τις ἁρπάσῃ ἀλλότριον πρᾶγμα, καὶ ὁμώσαντες ἕτεροι ἀδίκως, ἐπιτιμάσθω ἔτη ιβʹ, καὶ τὸ πρᾶγμα τριπλοῦν ἀποστραφείτω. 50 Ἐάν τις ὁμώσῃ παρθένον, οὐκ ἔχει ὁ κανὼν ἵνα χωρισθῶσι, διὰ τὸ μὴ πατήσειν τὸ ζωοποιὸν σταυρόν.

51 Ἐάν τις μιανθῇ τὴν ἁγίαν τεσσαρακοστὴν, νηστεύει ἀπὸ τοῦ πάσχα μέχρι

τῆς πεντηκοστῆς· χρὴ δὲ διαλύειν τὴν μεγάλην κυριακήν. 52 Ἐάν τις ἀδελφὸν ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ τῆς ἀληθείας διὰ τὴν πανουργίαν αὐτοῦ, ἐπιτιμάσθω ἡμέρας μʹ, μετανοίας νʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 53 Ἐάν τις [εὑρεθῇ] ἀργολογῶν καὶ γελιάζων, ἐπιτιμάσθω ἡμέρας βʹ, μετανοίας νʹ, ξηροφαγῶν. 54 Ὁ κενοδοξῶν τινα χριστιανὸν, ἐχθρὸς γίνεται τοῦ Θεοῦ. 55 Ὁ κανόναρχος, ἐὰν ἀμελῶς στιχολογῇ, καὶ τὴν ἁρμόζουσαν τῷ Θεῷ ἀκολουθίαν διὰ τὴν αὐτοῦ ῥᾳθυμίαν ἐκκόπτει, ξηροφαγείτω ἡμέρας εʹ, μετανοίας νʹ. 56 Ὁ αὐτὸς ἐὰν ἀμελῶς κατακεῖται μετὰ τὴν ὥραν τοῦ σημαντῆρος, καὶ τὰς βίβλους αὐτοῦ μὴ ἐπιμελούμενος, καὶ τὰς μνείας τῶν ἁγίων μὴ
