295 18. ποστ ἔλεγεν λαββει ξοδεχ· about Amalek. And after such things Amalek came in thousands and myriads to join battle with the Hebrews, who were unarmed. Moses went up on the mountain, and stretched out his hands in prayer. And when Moses raised his hands on the mountain, he routed Amalek, but when he grew weary and lowered them, Amalek routed the Jews. Therefore, Aaron and Hur, noticing this, came, one on the right and the other on the left, and they supported the hands of Moses high up, and thus in the end Amalek was destroyed. And that of David was fulfilled, "1In the works of his 296 hands the sinner was caught."

2 And when the Jews reached the desert of Kadesh, the serpents were devouring them, and they were dying. Then Moses, having nailed the bronze serpent crosswise on high, the biting serpents stopped; but also as many as were bitten by the serpents, by gazing upon the bronze serpent were delivered from death. 387 9. ηυξ ρεφερ θυαε π. 211 ιμα ποστ ὑποκείμενον ηαβετ φ· and he did not know her until she had brought forth her firstborn son. He has therefore placed here the "until," so that we may learn that before the birth-pains the virgin was untouched in truth; for he left it to us to reason about what came after, that he, being a just man, would not have endured to know her afterwards, who had thus become a mother and been deemed worthy of new birth-pains and a strange delivery. And so indeed Athanasius, great in divine things, on this evangelical and divine saying. But the Paulicians, the heirs of the accursed Manes, being able to understand none of this, were also led astray, as has been said before, to say concerning the spotless and all-blameless mother of the Lord, that after the saving birth she had other sons from Joseph. μετὰ μέντοι ετ θυαε σεθυυντυρ ινιτιο παγ.

212. 395 14.ποστ Χριστοῦ Φ· However, the well-covered translator in the martyrdom of the holy apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas written by him says these things. And just then the Savior, having healed the paralytic at the Sheep Pool, had Barnabas as a spectator of the miracle; for which reason also, looking into the depths of his heart, he gave him a share of his word and of boldness toward him. Barnabas, therefore, having come to the house of Mary the mother of John, who was surnamed Mark (and the account held this to be his aunt), says to her, "1He who is to come, whom our fathers desired to see, behold, he has arrived."2 And at once, leaving everything, she went to the temple, and falling before Christ, she begged him to enter her house. And indeed he came. And this is the one in which he celebrated the Passover with the disciples. And a tradition has come down to us from above that the one carrying the jar of water, whom Christ permitted the disciples to follow, was the wise Mark, the son of this 396 Mary. Indeed, in such a house, also after the ascension, the apostles went up when they returned with the rest of the brethren, among whom were also Barnabas and Mark. Ἐπιφάνιος δέ τις ετ ρελιθυα.
