6 To the one holding the second place. Moses was the leader, and the son of Nave running together with him immediately after, as a supporter
a stranger. And you, being the second person in station, consider how you hold the brotherhood together; lead, guide, and defend with vigor, peacefully and sympathetically and gently, observing the laws laid down by God, delivering just judgments without offense, now grieving with those who are weary from suffering, now encouraging those who run out of desire, so that you may be deemed worthy of lawful leadership, as one who will himself lead the people of the Lord.
7 To the steward
Having received the work of Stephen, the crown of martyrs, to preside over the
distributing of needs to the multitude of brethren chosen by Christ, give your labors to God each day, watching over each one diligently as your own member; not this one out of relationship, and that one out of hatred and envy, but providing for the benefit of all equally, so that no one may be moved to what is necessary, but you may contribute what is fitting of your own accord, so that you may worthily complete your course, without offense and with all strength, with God-mindedness, you may find the reward for the care you have chosen.
8 To the Epistemonarchs
You who of the brotherhood have undertaken to judge a judgment and to bring forth what is just, do not indeed
bring forth your pronouncements according to appearance, not with partiality, nor for the sake of wrath, not with a friendly nor a hostile heart, but gently and sympathetically, with compassion, and with counsel, with long-suffering, with vigor, having purely sharpened your mind like an arrow, may you shoot straight words at the target, so that, pursuing the truth in every word, you may offer just judgments to God; for with the manner in which you judge, you shall also be judged.
9 To the overseers
You who have been placed in the station of eyes for your kinsmen, see and watch all men keenly
in the days, in the nights, at midday, lest the faces of the young be two, lest there be factions, conspiracies, destruction of free speech, works of darkness, wantonness, laughter, disorders of insolence and every evil thing that carries one far from God; reporting these things frequently to the leaders, with impartiality, for the sake of the word of truth, may you truly attain divine oversight, having received the reward for good things.
10 To the Canonarch
Standing as leader of the lyre of songs, appear as a harp in wondrous melody;
sound the wood at the right time, as is needed, and move your tongue as if wielding a plectrum, always fittingly introducing the line of melody unconfused, beautifully sounding, like an instrument, giving good rhythm to the mouth of the brotherhood; may you assign all things to all in a worthy manner, not for favor, nor wrath, nor giving of grief, but in just word and manner; for all are members of God and of you. Thus thinking, then, you will receive a crown from God.
