II. By the same, other things concerning the incarnate presence of the Lord.
«This is our God; no other shall be accounted of in comparison to him. He found out all the way of knowledge, and gave it to Jacob his servant, and to Israel his beloved. After this he was seen upon earth, and conversed with men.» »God shall come manifestly, our God, and shall not keep silence.» And again: «The God of gods shall be seen in Zion.» 46.201 And again, «The Lord is God, and he has appeared to us.» «The Lord, whom you seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the Angel of the covenant, whom you desire.» «Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; proclaim it, O daughter of Jerusalem. Behold, your King comes to you, meek, and sitting upon a beast of burden and a young colt.» For what king ever, sitting on a donkey, entered into Jerusalem? And again, «Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for I am coming, and I will dwell in your midst, says the Lord. And many nations shall flee to the Lord in that day, and they shall be to him a people.» And again, «Behold, I send my angel before your face, who will prepare your way before you.» And again, «His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east.» And after a little, «The Lord showed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and the devil stood at his right hand to oppose him. And the Lord said to the devil, The Lord rebuke you, O devil. And the angel of the Lord testified to Jesus, saying: Thus says the Lord Almighty: If you will walk in my ways, and if you will keep my charge, then you also shall judge my house.» And again, «Hear now, O Jesus the high priest.» Isaiah, «I was made manifest to those who did not seek me, and I was found by those who did not ask for me.» (And again, «And you shall see a great king.» But no one sees God.)
And again: «The Lord will appear over them, and he will destroy all the gods of the nations.» And again: «Behold, I am here for a nation that did not call upon my name.» David, «You who sit upon the cherubim, shine forth. Stir up your strength, and come to save us.» And again, «He shall come down like rain upon a fleece.» Signifying the untroubled and noiseless descent; for rain falling on the earth makes a sound; but falling on a fleece of wool, it does not. Micah, «And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come forth for me a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel; and 46.204 his goings forth are from the beginning, from the days of eternity.» Moses, «A prophet will the Lord our God raise up for you from among your brethren, like me; him you shall hear in all things, whatever he will speak to you; and it shall be that whoever will not hear that prophet shall be destroyed.» Many prophets have arisen. About which of them, then, does he speak? And this one who is to be raised up, will he teach the things of Moses, or other things? If the things of Moses, what is the point of another arising when Moses suffices? But if other things, let them say both what his teachings were, and who the prophet is. For none of the acknowledged ones, from without, either taught or asked anything of them. And the God of all himself confirmed the prophecy concerning himself, saying, «They have spoken all things well; I will raise up a prophet for them from among their brethren, like you; and I will put my word in his mouth.» Consider then the power of the saying. For to no other prophet did he say he had given a word; for they, serving in a slavish manner, would say: «Thus says

Βʹ. Τοῦ αὐτοῦ ἕτερα περὶ τῆς ἐνσάρκου τοῦ Κυρίου παρουσίας.
«Οὗτος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν· οὐ λογισθήσεται ἕτερος πρὸς αὐτόν. Ἐξεῦρε πᾶσαν ὁδὸν
ἐπιστήμης, καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτὴν Ἰακὼβ τῷ παιδὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ Ἰσραὴλ τῷ ἠγαπημένῳ αὐτοῦ. Μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ὤφθη, καὶ τοῖς ἀνθρώποις συνανεστράφη.» »Ὁ Θεὸς ἐμ φανῶς ἥξει, ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν, καὶ οὐ παρασιωπήσεται.» Καὶ πάλιν· «Ὀφθήσεται ὁ Θεὸς τῶν θεῶν ἐν Σιών.» 46.201 Καὶ πάλιν, «Θεὸς Κύριος καὶ ἐπέφανεν ἡμῖν.» «Ἐξαίφνης ἥξει εἰς τὸν ναὸν ἑαυτοῦ Κύριος, ὃν ὑμεῖς ζητεῖτε, καὶ ὁ Ἄγγελος τῆς διαθήκης, ὃν ὑμεῖς θέλετε.» «Χαῖρε σφόδρα, θύγατερ Σιών· κήρυσσε, θύ γατερ Ἱερουσαλήμ. Ἰδοὺ ὁ Βασιλεύς σου ἔρχεταί σοι πραῢς, καὶ ἐπιβεβηκὼς ἐπὶ ὑποζύγιον καὶ πῶλον ὄνου.» Τίς δέ ποτε τῶν βασιλέων, ὄνῳ καθήμε νος, εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ εἰσῆλθε; Καὶ πάλιν, «Τέρπου καὶ εὐφραίνου, θύγατερ Σιὼν, διότι ἐγὼ ἔρχομαι, καὶ κατασκηνώσω ἐν μέσῳ σου, λέγει Κύριος. Καὶ κατα φεύξονται ἔθνη πολλὰ ἐπὶ τὸν Κύριον ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, καὶ ἔσονται αὐτῷ εἰς λαόν.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἀποστέλλω τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσ ώπου σου, ὃς κατασκευάσει τὴν ὁδόν σου ἔμπροσθέν σου.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Στήσονται οἱ πόδες αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐπὶ τὸ ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν, τὸ κατέναντι Ἱερουσαλὴμ ἐξ ἀνατολῶν.» Καὶ μετὰ βραχέα, «Ἔδειξέ μοι Κύριος τὸν Ἰησοῦν, τὸν ἱερέα τὸν μέγαν, ἑστῶτα πρὸ προσώπου ἀγγέλου Κυρίου· καὶ ὁ διάβολος εἱστήκει ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἀντικεῖσθαι αὐτῷ. Καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς τὸν διάβολον· Ἐπιτιμήσαι Κύριος ἐν σοὶ, διάβολε. Καὶ διεμαρτύρατο ὁ ἄγγελος Κυρίου πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν, λέγων· Τάδε λέγει Κύριος παντοκράτωρ· Ἐὰν ταῖς ὁδοῖς μου πορεύσῃ, καὶ ἐὰν τὰ προστάγματά μου φυλάξῃ, καὶ σὺ διακρινεῖς τὸν οἶκόν μου.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Ἄκουε δὴ, Ἰησοῦς, ὁ ἱερεὺς ὁ μέγας.» Ἡσαΐας, «Ἐμφανὴς ἐγενόμην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ζητοῦσι, καὶ εὑρέθην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ἐπερωτῶσι.» (Καὶ πάλιν, «Καὶ βασιλέα μέγαν ὄψεσθε.» Θεὸν δὲ οὐδεὶς ὁρᾷ.)
Καὶ πάλιν· «Ἐπιφανήσεται Κύριος ἐπ' αὐτοὺς, καὶ ἐξολοθρεύσει πάντας τοὺς θεοὺς τῶν ἐθνῶν.» Καὶ πάλιν· «Ἰδοὺ πάρειμι τῷ ἔθνει, οἳ οὐκ ἐπεκαλέσαντο τὸ ὄνομά μου.» ∆αβὶδ, «Ὁ καθήμε νος ἐπὶ τῶν χερουβὶμ ἐμφάνηθι. Ἐξέγειρον τὴν δυ ναστείαν σου, καὶ ἐλθὲ εἰς τὸ σῶσαι ἡμᾶς.» Καὶ πάλιν, «Καταβήσεται ὡς ὑετὸς ἐπὶ πόκον.» Τὸ ἀτά ραχον καὶ ἄνευ ψόφου τῆς καταβάσεως σημαίνων· ἐπὶ γὰρ τὴν γῆν ὑετὸς καταβαίνων, ψόφον ποιεῖ· ἐπὶ δὲ πόκον ἐρίου καταβαίνων, οὐ ποιεῖ. Μιχαίας, «Καὶ σὺ, Βηθλεὲμ γῆ Ἰούδα, οὐδαμῶς ἐλαχίστη εἶ ἐν τοῖς ἡγεμόσιν Ἰούδα· ἐκ γὰρ σοῦ ἐξελεύσεταί μοι ἡγούμε νος, ὃς ποιμανεῖ τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραήλ· καὶ 46.204 ἔξοδοι αὐτοῦ ἀπ' ἀρχῆς ἀφ' ἡμερῶν αἰῶνος.» Μωσῆς, «Προφήτην ὑμῖν ἀναστήσει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν ἐκ τῶν ἀδελφῶν ὑμῶν, ὡς ἐμέ· αὐτοῦ ἀκούσεσθε κατὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἂν λαλήσει πρὸς ὑμᾶς· καὶ ἔσται, ὃς ἂν μὴ ἀκούσῃ τοῦ προφήτου ἐκείνου, ἐξολοθρευθήσεται.» Πολλοὶ ἀνέστησαν προφῆται. Ἆρα περὶ ποίου αὐ τῶν λέγει; Οὗτος δὲ ὁ ἀναστησόμενος, ἆρα τὰ Μω σέως διδάξει, ἢ ἕτερα; Εἰ μὲν τὰ Μωσέως, τί τὸ περίεργον, ἄλλον ἀναστῆναι ἀρκοῦντος Μωσέως; Εἰ δὲ ἕτερα, εἰπάτωσαν, καὶ ποῖα ἦν τὰ διδάγματα αὐτοῦ, καὶ τίς ὁ προφήτης; τῶν γὰρ νενομισμένων οὐδεὶς ἔξωθεν, ἢ ἐδίδαξεν, ἢ ᾔτησε παρ' αὐτῶν τι. Καὶ αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ τῶν ὅλων Θεὸς ἐκύρωσε τὴν περὶ ἑαυτοῦ προφητείαν, εἰπὼν, «Ὀρθῶς πάντα ἐλάλη σαν· Προφήτην αὐτοῖς ἀναστήσω ἐκ μέσου τῶν ἀδελ φῶν αὐτῶν, ὥσπερ σέ· καὶ δώσω τὸ ῥῆμά μου ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτοῦ.» Σκόπει οὖν τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ ῥητοῦ. Οὐδὲ γὰρ ἄλλῳ προφήτῃ εἶπε δεδωκέναι ῥῆμα· αὐτοὶ γὰρ δουλοπρεπῶς διακονοῦντες ἔλεγον· «Τάδε λέγει
