being softened, bearing the images of all the things that have happened there; so also he who returns from the contemplation of the martyrs ought to be recognizable to all, by his gaze, by his deportment, by his gait, by his compunction, by the concentration of his mind; breathing fire, composed, contrite, sober, watchful, proclaiming the inner philosophy through the movements of the body. So then let us return to the city in this way, with fitting orderliness, with an orderly gait, with understanding and sobriety, with a gentle and calm gaze.
For the adornment of a man, and the laughter of teeth, and the step of a foot will report the things concerning him. Thus let us always return from the martyrs, from spiritual ointments, from heavenly meadows, from new and strange sights, so that we ourselves may reap much facility, and become agents of freedom for others, and may attain the good things to come, by the grace and loving-kindness of our Lord Jesus Christ, with whom to the Father, together with the Holy Spirit, be glory, might, honor, now and always, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
