O the power of a voice, raising the four-day-dead man as from sleep, and leading forth from the tomb the one bound with grave-clothes as though unbound and a swift runner! Fix your mind, beloved, on the voice, and you will find it to be the same Word who said in the creation of the world, Let there be light, and there was light; Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven, and it was so, the same one who now says: Lazarus, come forth, And the fluids that had flowed out of the flesh filled their cavities again, and the hairs that had fallen out recognized their own place, and were planted in the limbs. Lazarus, come forth; and the dead man arose, and he who was four days dead was equal to one who had not died at all. Lazarus, come forth; and the soul was drawn up from the underworld, with no devil speaking against it, with no death wrestling against it, and rejoicing it recognized its own dwelling.

Having seen the divine work of these miracles, beloved, do not doubt the resurrection; let Lazarus be a mirror for you, and having seen yourself in him, believe in the raising up. For the same voice will raise us all, as the Apostle somewhere says: For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible; by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
