the royal throne, he ran for those prizes of the upward calling, he longed for those royal gifts distributed by the heavenly king to his own combatants. What speech then would suffice to worthily honor with speech so great and of such stature an athlete, who is proclaimed through his works and like an indelible pillar has left behind the memory of his own achievements? Let us emulate his desire, and let us imitate his virtue, so that we may also enjoy the crowns that are laid up, by the grace of the only-begotten Son of God, with whom to the Father be glory with the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages. τὸν θρόνον τὸν βασιλικὸν, πρὸς ἐκεῖνα ἔτρεχε τὰ βραβεῖα τῆς ἄνω κλήσεως, ἐκείνας ἐπόθει τὰς βασιλικὰς δωρεὰς τὰς παρὰ τοῦ ἐπουρανίου βασιλέως διανεμομένας τοῖς οἰκείοις αὐτοῦ ἀγωνισταῖς. Τίς ἂν οὖν λόγος ἀρκέσειε τὸν τοσοῦτον καὶ τηλικοῦτον ἀθλητὴν πρὸς ἀξίαν σεμνῦναι τῷ λόγῳ, τὸν διὰ τῶν ἔργων κηρυττόμενον καὶ καθάπερ στήλην ἀνεξάλειπτον καταλελοιπότα τῶν οἰκείων κατορθωμάτων τὴν μνήμην; Τούτου τὸν πόθον ζηλώσωμεν, καὶ τὴν ἀρετὴν μιμησώμεθα, ἵνα καὶ τῶν ἀποκειμένων στεφάνων ἀπολαύσωμεν, χάριτι τοῦ μονογενοῦς Υἱοῦ τοῦ Θεοῦ, μεθ' οὗ τῷ Πατρὶ δόξα σὺν τῷ ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι, νῦν καὶ ἀεὶ, καὶ εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας.
