fulfilled according to the commandment of the Father, becoming obedient unto death, even death on a cross; and on the third day he was raised from the dead, according to the Scriptures, he appeared to his holy disciples, and to the others, as it is written; and he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; from where he is coming at the end of this age to raise all, and to render to each according to his deeds; when the righteous will be received into eternal life and the kingdom of heaven, but the sinners will be condemned to eternal punishment, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.

And one only Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, in whom we were sealed for the day of redemption; the Spirit of truth, the Spirit of adoption, in whom we cry: Abba, Father; who distributes and works the gifts from God to each for the common good, as he wills; who teaches and brings to remembrance all things, whatever he hears from the Son; the good, who guides into all truth, and strengthens all who believe for sure knowledge, and precise confession, and pious worship, and spiritual and true adoration of God the Father and of his only-begotten Son our Lord and God Jesus Christ, and of himself; clearly explaining to us the property of each named person, and concerning each of those named, certain excellent properties being piously contemplated, 31.688 that of the Father in the property of the Father, and that of the Son in the property of the Son, and that of the Holy Spirit in its own property; neither the Holy Spirit speaking from himself, nor the Son doing anything from himself; and the Father sending the Son, and the Son sending the Holy Spirit. Thus we believe, and thus we baptize into a consubstantial Trinity, according to the commandment of our Lord Jesus Christ himself who said: Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. Which things observing, we show our love for him, and are deemed worthy to abide in it, as it is written; but not observing, having the contrary disposition, we are condemned. For he who does not love me, says the Lord, does not keep my words; and again: He who has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is who loves me. But I wonder all the more that, when our Lord Jesus Christ himself says: Do not rejoice that the demons are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in the heavens; and again: By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another; whence the Apostle, showing the necessity of love in all things, testifies saying: If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become a noisy gong, or a clanging cymbal; and if I have prophecy, and know all mysteries, and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing; and after a little: Whether prophecies, they will be done away; whether tongues, they will cease; whether knowledge, it will be done away, and the rest, to which he adds: But now faith, hope, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love; these and such things being so ordained by both the Lord and the Apostle, I say in amazement, how is it that concerning things that are done away and cease, men have so much zeal and alarm, but concerning things that remain, and especially the greatest of all, love, which characterizes the Christian, not only do they themselves take no thought, but they also oppose those who are zealous, and by fighting they fulfill what was said: They neither enter themselves, nor do they allow those who are entering to go in.
